is suspended from her full time academic position at Hebrew University of Jerusalem (a university, as it happens, QMUL is partnered with- and whose campus is built on stolen Palestinian land) for speaking out against genocide.
In another blow to academic freedom in Israel, the Hebrew University suspends internationally renowned Palestinian professor Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian for denouncing Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Suspension from teaching is justified in order to “preserve a safe climate on campus.”

Finally, the champions of academic freedom have FINALLY said something about this egregious violation. Are you able to say WHO are responsible for stifling Nadera's academic freedom rather than a restatement of abstract principle? Have you actually done anything about it?
AFAF QMUL believes that academics, both in and out of the classroom, have unrestricted liberty to put forward controversial and unpopular opinions, and academic institutions have no right to curb the exercise of this freedom by members of their staff.
