Chaos in Arcturus by Karl Zeigfried (John Spencer & Co. 1953) cover by Ron Embleton. This definitely has a pulp-style cover to it. I'd like to see more of Embleton's work but he apparently only did a handful of SF genre artwork, most of it prior to 1960.

A commenter tells me "Vernon Castle was part of a famous dance duo with his wife, Irene. They stared in several early movies, and helped shape dance and music trends of the 20th century, including helping to popularize African rhythms" He died during a training accident in WWI

My family eggnog recipe originated (reputedly) in New Orleans during Prohibition. It has four different liquors, a dozen eggs, a pound of sugar, and a half gallon of cream.

I started the site on Posterous (RIP) because it integrated with FriendFeed (RIP). The migration to WordPress was a huge hassle, but it has let me move the site as needed whenever a hosting company tries to screw me over.
