So to say that AI will save us from evil social media algos while implying that social media algos have nothing to do with AI strikes me, unfortunately, as a dangerously misleading attempt to sweep a huge presentday harm from AI--the engine of social media--under the rug.

they wanted to predict what posts users are most likely to engage with, which search links users are most likely to click, and most importantly what ads people will click. So social media in the decade prior to ChatGPT got taken over by AI, and AI still powers those algorithms.
