Prism Photo Workshop, in collaboration with the NPPA, awarded the $1,000 Chuck Cass Scholarship to Dylan Connell (he/him) from Columbia College. This scholarship supports his work in highlighting the stories of working-class individuals, especially single mothers.

Prism Photo Workshop has been awarded $40,000 by the Field Foundation! We are grateful for their support, which allows us to provide higher honorariums for our April 2025 workshop participants, expand community events, and better compensate our previously volunteer team.

We are once again offering the $1,000 Chuck Cass scholarship to a Chicago-area high school or college student interested in pursuing photojournalism as a career. The winner will be selected based on a portfolio of up to 10 work samples and a short essay.

Existing and documenting is radical in itself. I feel like it’s a big, queer way to give institutional structures the middle finger in the most charming, thoughtful, beautiful way.

Through intimate and candid imagery, my intent is to celebrate and showcase the beauty and joy of our queerness within our community. It’s a radical interpretation of expression and affection.

As a fat, queer, first-generation immigrant from the Philippines, I hardly see images of people that look like me, and I’m sure many other queer, BIPOC people feel similarly. We as queer BIPOC folks should be celebrated.

In the artist’s words:.Receiving this grant will enable me to invest in new equipment, enhancing my ability to capture and share compelling stories through my photography. I want to celebrate bodies and lives that are often overlooked by the mainstream.

Through intimate and candid imagery, Keni’s work affirms the existence, resilience and vibrancy of queer BIPOC individuals. They see photographing beauty and joy as a radical act of resistance.

As a queer immigrant, Keni uses care and tenderness to explore the intersections of race, gender and cultural identity. Their current photo series wants to celebrate these intersections of identity while also forging new connections with fellow queer, BIPOC individuals.

Big congrats are also due to Prism grant recipient Keni Rosales (they/them), a Chicago-based photographer, whose winning project explores the beauty of queer life in everyday spaces. 🧵
