This week in Birmingham, Simon Garfield, author of 'Just My Type', unveiled a blue plaque in honour of the city’s eighteenth century typographic genius. Unfortunately, it had to be cast using Times not Baskerville. It will be installed on the face of Baskerville House in June.

A close up of the Baskerville slate in the archives at Library of Birmingham. You can clearly see how he worked his graver in different ways to achieve various effects. The slate itself is incredibly fine and thin and would have taken skill to handle.

When the Baskerville punches were returned to Cambridge, the Press had a party at which a special brew called 'Baskerville Punch' was served. It consisted of a 'Pimm's Cup in which were floating those little farinaceous letters indigenous to alphabet soup'. @Baskerville1707
