And after Riko broke his hand? He lost value, and I dare say he would be the "next Jean" if he hadn't left, and Jean would've died or killed himself. Kevin leaving and being able to help Jean in the future was their good end

People love to forget Kevin was also never treated as a human being in the Nest, he wasn't a punching bag for Riko only bc he was a valuable product. He did the best he could for Jean while also trying to survive and maintain his value.
For Kevin to have been able to stop the tortures against Jean or other ravens he would have had to have the same hierarchy level as Riko. And he clearly didn't, as every single character who talked about him as a raven has told us along the books. He was just a "pet" for him.
