Just finished listening to @thewholeframe and @lucasmaddyās Bitcoin Study Sessions on Our Tribal Future ā and it absolutely made my week. Itās the most insightful take Iāve heard on the book so far ā connecting our ancestral tribes to the merging networks of digital tribes.
Bitcoin Study Sessions #043 "Our Tribal Future - Part One" @thewholeframe & I leave the echo-chamber of sound money advocates in this foray into the science, evolution, and determinism of societal organization - The Tribe, composed of Bands built from Camps. Author

Lousy sleep? Itās quality, not quantity that may be your problem @UTM_Anthro prof David Samson (@Primalprimate) shares his latest research on sleeplessness with @cbcradio: Quirks & Quarks š“ https://t.co/0RJjWwTFEI

Our paper suggests that we could be on the verge of a species level sleep enlightenment, if we improve chronohygiene while balancing the benefits of secure sleeping conditions.

Why it matters: Healthy sleep is not just about duration or efficiencyācircadian alignment also matters. Aligning work schedules, lighting, and lifestyle with our natural rhythms could improve overall health. In fact, I believe circadian rhythms are upstream of sleep.

These results challenge the anxiety driving notion of a āsleep restriction epidemicā in industrial areas. While people there do sleep longer, they may suffer from circadian disruption, which can impact health, mood, and metabolism.

Key finding #2: However, non-industrial societies showed stronger circadian rhythms, while industrial societies had weaker circadian functionālikely due to reduced natural light exposure and more artificial environments. This is a major cost of modern life.

Key finding #1: People in industrial societies actually slept longer and had more efficient sleep (spent more of their time in bed actually sleeping) than those in small-scale, non-industrial societies. We're talking about a whopping difference of 42 minutes more sleep!

We analyzed data from 54 populations, comparing sleep duration and efficiency. Then we measured circadian function in both non-industrial, small-scale and industrial, large-scale communities worldwide.

First, we tested two big ideas: 1. The Sleep Restriction Epidemic Hypothesis (tech & work demands in industrial societies reduce sleep). 2. The Circadian Mismatch Hypothesis (industrial environments misalign our circadian rhythms).

Excited to share our new research: āAre humans facing a sleep epidemic or enlightenment? Large-scale, industrial societies exhibit long, efficient sleep yet weak circadian function.ā Letās break down the key findings in this thread:

While most studies on Daylight Saving Time (DST) focus on human sleep and well-being, there is a dearth of understanding of how this sudden, human-mitigated change affects the routines of companion...

Epic conversation with @KnowleDJoficial on tribal identity and how it governs our coalitionary instincts. Thank you my friend š
One year since the Hamas attack on Israel. As someone with close friends, both Jewish & Arab, it hurts to see the finger-pointing. We need to recognize the humanity in each other first Sat down to talk real solutions with @Primalprimate beyond tribalism

Fashion can reflect our tribal instincts, as highlighted by @DrBenjaminWild's essay on "Our Tribal Future." It's a daily choice to signal our group identity. Emphasizing local (face-to-face) over tribal groups could revolutionize how we consume fashion and enhance wellbeing.

We're incentivized to leave the social networks within which we were born. It's hard to imagine a more pernicious form of mismatch.

It was thrilling to speak on @CBC's IDEAS with @NahlahAyed. I feel this was the most important conversation I've had on #ourtribalfuture. For an hour, we delved deep into our species' past to gain insight into the present and peer into its future. Excerpt of discussion here:
