Kids need consequences from people who love them, before they end up with consequences from people who don’t.

If a 2nd grade word problem on a standardized test is written at a 3rd or 4th grade reading level, then you aren’t testing for math, you’re testing for above grade level reading. And doesn't reflect student knowledge of actual 2nd grade math curriculum.

Sometimes mixing in formative assessments that go a step beyond exit slips and low-stakes quizzes can inject some fun—and creativity—into learning.

Test scores rarely tell the story of effective instruction: more often they reveal privilege, affluence, and access to resources that support doing well on standardized tests.

Remember when we would force kids to participate because “that’s the real world” and now we have jobs where they communicate virtually in the actual real world work force? Glad we are moving in the direction where there are jobs/careers for everyone. They all need celebrated.

We all know "class participation" usually means “speaking up." But speaking up isn't the same as engagement. Let's be #inclusive of those who are more introspective, #introverts, those with social anxiety, and those uncomfortable speaking up. #LeadInclusion #EdChat #inclusion

Students who have IEPs are not "special education students." They are just students. They belong to every teacher they have. Receiving a service doesn't change a students identity as a student. #LeadInclusion #EdChat #UDL #Inclusion

Teacher evaluations should be more aspirational to reflect professionalism of the role. How are you doing this year? What do you think we are doing well? What is an area we can improve? How can I best support you right now? What professional goals can we help you achieve?
