This study included Kurukh-speaking Oraon populations from Bangladesh and India to analyze their genetic relationship with Brahui from Pakistan. Oraon showed genetic closeness with distant populations Mawasi (North Munda) and Gond (South Dravidian), rather than their neighbours.

Previous genetic studies did not show a close genetic link between Brahui and other Dravidian populations of South Asia, but none included Kurukh-Malto populations (Brahui's closest linguistic relatives).
