You ever see a piece of transmog and create an entire new character around it? Yeah, so here's Oktra the Frostfang.

Surely this couldn't be an intentional character dynamic of bonding with the player character based on their competence and not mere reputation. No no, his voice acting is grumpy so he must simply be shitting on me at all times. He should die now.

Really unfortunate that this moment means basically nothing now. Sylvanas wasn't *actually* doing it for the Forsaken, or even for herself, and failing her deal with Helya didn't matter at all. Genn's revenge turned out to just be a minor setback lol

But at its core, this book really helps codify the family dynamic between these three as we head into Midnight. It does a great job setting all three of them down the paths we'll see them on in the expansion next year. So to conclude: I definitely recommend reading Blood Ties.

And, through no fault of this book, this really feels like a story that should have happened right after Legion. Arator especially feels fresh off of his Legion story, not 10 years later. More and more it feels like the BfA-DF era was just this big in-universe fever dream lol

Now, I'm not without my critiques. Arator's backstory is kind of a mess now lol, I think the Lor'themar additions make him far more convoluted and overly-connected. And the timescale is absurdly quick, to the point that I *still* don't really know how long the events took lol

Arator is also used as a really good bridge between that divide here. Perhaps a bit *too* blatantly at times, but the sections on Outland and especially after the demon threat is dealt with dig into his character being 'stuck between two worlds' in a way I surprisingly enjoyed.

I really love how this book took their dynamic from Legion and TWW and showcased it for what it is: very unhealthy lol There is immense love between them, but that love might *not* be enough to bridge the divide that both of them (especially Alleria) cause with their actions.

Turalyon's portrayal in Midnight is something I'm also *really* excited to see more of, thanks to this book. Blood Ties does perhaps the best job at *understanding* Turalyon's extremities, without excusing them. He honestly comes off as more compassionate than Alleria haha

And on the subject of characters, man are Alleria and Turalyon phenomenally well-realized in this. Alleria especially has been crafted into such an engaging character, and I love how much this book isn't afraid to make her *flawed* while still ultimately being a protagonist.

The stuff in Felsoul Hold is *cool*, but its also not something anyone will feel is missing from the game ala War Crimes or The Shattering. And because it's not some huge event, the book gets to focus on the dynamics Alleria, Turalyon, and Arator way more in its downtime.

Plot-wise, it's *exactly* what WoW tie-in books should be IMO: events that don't really need to matter long-term, and exist primarily to give us character interactions. Because these books shouldn't really be about big plot events, they should be about exploring characters!

After ruminating on it and rereading sections the last few days, I have to say that I *really* enjoyed Blood Ties. It is by far the most character-centric book WoW has ever put out, and it uses that to its advantage. Definitely my favorite WoW book that Christie Golden has done.

Text version. The loss of most of his followers being pointed out so clearly makes me think they're going to have him follow in the footsteps of Zul'jin to subjugate whatever is on Atal'Utek. He has to get his power from *somewhere*, here's just hoping he comes back from it.

The other one is between Liadrin and Zul'jarra, also regarding Zul'jan. This one definitely feels more like 12.1 antagonist set-up, and I *really* hope the plot isn't that Zul'jarra has to learn to let go of her attachment to her brother to enact justice for her people.

Text version for posterity, and Zul'jan's gossip text before the conversation. I really love the relationship between Zul'jarra and Zul'jan, their constant arguing might be the most realistic sibling dynamic we've gotten in WoW lol
