I am very hesitant to assign obesity in the US to lifestyle.
Something is DEEPLY wrong with their food quality.
You know this because Europeans immediately gain weight in the US without changing their eating habits and lose the weight just as easily when back in Europe.

If you want to stay a healthy weight in the US, you have to live in the gym or/and follow some radical exclusionary diet, to the extent that it becomes part of your personality.
Europeans eat carbs, bread and sugars, Nutella breakfast, seed oils, etc. and don’t get fat.

Most Europeans also lead a sedentary lifestyle, practice even less sports than Americans, and aren’t particularly fit either, but most aren’t even fat, much less obese.
