schorl is black tourmaline.Formed in granite and metamorphic rocks, its deep black colour comes from high iron content, giving it the solid,black hue that collectors admire. Its rare pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties give it the ability to generate an electrical charge

Black tourmaline or schorl mirrors the same richness of colour. Making up nearly 95% of all tourmaline found in nature, schorl’s bold hue comes from high iron content, giving it strength and durability .

Across Africa, meals are still prepared on firewood and jikos (charcoal stoves in swahili), leaving the sufuria ( the cooking pot in Swahili) coated in black soot. This deep, enduring black tells the story of tradition and good meals.
