Candace Owens has no automatic “right” to speak here. @ChrisPenknz lacks the courage to stand up to the thuggery of the Freeze Peach Union. When faced with a bonafide antisemite, he is happy for the Jewish community to bear the outcome of his failures. What a pathetic racist slug

As an anti-fascist group, we don't rely on the state to protect us and our communities. But even now, we can push for the state to take basic steps to protect the vulnerable from violence and marginalisation.

We also need to be aware that astroturf organisations that pretend to care about free speech only care about freedom for the powerful to verbally beat up on the powerless and to normalise white supremacist hate speech. That kind of speech silences people through fear.

In giving a platform to nazis they could well be implicated in the violence that these people spread. As importantly, venue hosting says to people who live in the community that that kind of speech is acceptable.

When we allow platforms to people like Owens, we are directly threatening the lives of entire groups of people. The community venue that was prepared to host her should be ashamed and take a long, hard look at their hosting policy.

Candace Owens was explicitly celebrated by the white supremacist terrorist who massacred 51 people at Al Noor and Linwood Mosques on 15 March 2019. She is a grifter promoting neo-nazi talking points and ideologies.

It doesn't take a genius to realise that these professional bigots don’t have to directly tell others to commit violence for that to be the direct and inevitable impact of their words.

We condemn the decision by Minister Chris Penk to overrule Immigration NZ & grant entry to Holocaust denier Candace Owens. No one has unlimited rights to spread hatred and fear in our society. Owens plans to come here because she hates Jewish people and wants to incite violence.

We applaud the decision by Immigration NZ to refuse entry to Holocaust denier Candace Owens. No one has unlimited rights to spread hatred and fear in our society. That is what this woman wanted to do.
