We have been made aware of a popular saying “ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws”. To clear the air: here in Portland, laws still apply even when you’re drinking claws. Or drinking anything else. RT to keep your “bros” out of trouble
For all asking: because we are here for the people, I checked on “no rulys when you’re drinking trulys”. I regret to inform you that this, too, doesn’t apply in Portland. There are still “rulys” regardless. And rules. And laws. Etc. Oh! And we still aren’t Portland, Oregon PD
Please don’t tell your kids: “they’ll arrest you if you don’t listen to me”. Not true. There’s no law that outlines the rules of a three year olds relationship with their parents. Nor do I have small enough handcuffs. We want to be someone they can ask for help, not the enemy.
If there are barricades, yes, the road is closed. If there’s a small river forming on a street, don’t attempt to drive through it— your civic is not a canoe. Finally, please don’t swim in the road. There will be no lifeguards on duty. I think that about covers it.
BREAKING: We are currently looking for last seasons version of Red Sox pitcher, Chris Sale. We have reason to believe an imposter is on the mound so far this season. If you have any leads on how we can get him back, please let us know—or reach out to
@bostonpolice
.
A reminder: we are the Portland MAINE police department. We are not in Oregon and can not assist you with issues that are happening (or happened) there
We are ready to give out the

tip for avoiding a car accident during a snow storm....DONT DRIVE IN A SNOW STORM. Shhhh, don’t tell; it’s our little secret. Be safe in what you do tonight, Portland.
The heart bandit struck again! If you know who he or she is don’t call the police just keep it a secret and let those close to you know how much you care about them especially today!

We will be giving special attention to places of worship today due to the tragic events that occurred yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the the Jewish community and anyone effected. Be assured that your right to worship in peace is important to us here in Portland.
Please don’t leave your dogs in the car if it’s hot out. Please don’t leave your children in the car if it’s hot out. I feel like the second one should be a given, but alas, here I am reminding you. “Its only going to be a minute” won’t cut it.
There’s been a lot of different predictions on what this weeks weather will bring us. As always, use due regard while driving in winter weather. (Dear local forecasters, this is just a joke and we appreciate the hard work you do. Funny memes are funny. Xoxo, PPD)
K-9 Mako worked his last shift on 9/15/18. The 2nd photo was taken on 9/14/12 when he was still a rookie. Mako earned his retirement by serving the citizens of Portland working night shift. His handler, Ofc Zack Finley is being promoted to Sergeant.

Our condolences to the Somerset County Sheriff’s office on their loss Deputy Eugene Cole. EOW 04-25-2018. Our thoughts are with his family and fellow Deputies.
I feel like as a public servant, it is my DUTY to inform you of the following: there is a Girl Scout troop selling cookies on Brighton Avenue (near woodford) until 2pm today. They took advantage of my lack of will power and I’m now eating “thanks a lot cookies” for lunch.
All jokes/memes/tweets aside, we would like to thank all the local meteorologists for their hard work. They are constantly being criticized and picked apart for doing their best— and trust me we know the feeling. Thanks

Today we remember. Take a moment today to remember those who were lost, their families, and those who fearlessly fought to save the lives of others. Never forget.
The Portland Police Department is joining hundreds of other agencies from across the nation to honor fallen hero, Corporal Eugene Cole, of the Somerset County Sheriffs Office. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sheriffs department and Corporal Cole's family.
January of 2024 was the first month in over 2.5 years that the Portland Police Department did not respond to an overdose fatality. We also saw a 21% decrease in overdoses compared to January of 2023.
Today we join our country, and the world, in remembering the 20 children and 6 teachers lost in the tragic and senseless killings at Sandy Hook Elementary school— just six years ago today. We mourn the loss of, and honor the memory of these brave faces today and everyday.
Police are on scene at Portland High School after a 911 call for the report of an active shooter. PHS staff is reporting there is no shooting. School is in lockdown while Police clear the building.
We’ve got some weather coming, folks. The Pats play tomorrow, and judging by the lack of groceries on the shelves when I went shopping an hour ago, you all have your fair share of food. Stay in, enjoy a day with family, or some well deserved “me-time”. Don’t drive. Pahk ya cah.
We were in the process of listing all of the closures, but there are too many to list. Again, we recommend you stay off the roads until further notice.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas featuring Officer Jeremy Turner

Members of the Portland Police Department Honor Guard had an amazing opportunity today. They were able to present the American flag and represent this agency during the National Anthem at Fenway Park.
Did you know: police officers are equipped with rain coats, so despite popular misconceptions, we do still stop cars in the rain. Please remember that if your windshield wipers are activated, you MUST have your headlights on (not my rule, Maine law).

announced she will nominate former Portland Police Chief Mike Sauschuck to serve as Commissioner of Public Safety and Randy Liberty, Warden of the Maine State Prison, to serve as Commissioner of the Department of Corrections.
The “Good Boy” award goes to K-9 Dozer for another successful track and arrest of a suspect. PPD responded to an alarm at the Riverside Golf Course and the suspect fled. Officer Lackee and Dozer tracked through the course and found Joseph Earles 53 YOA.
Your life means a lot to us. We know that times get tough and sometimes it seems like you may never crawl out of the hole you’re in. But you will, and you will be stronger because of it. Listed below are some resources right here in Maine. Please share- you ever know who needs it
For all who are in denial like we are, winter is here. Our first storm is moving in tonight. Let this tweet from your favorite PD serve as a reminder to take things slow and give yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going. You’re better off late than not arriving at all
Remember that one bad decision to drive after drinking could ruin your life. It could also ruin the lives of innocent people who will be sharing the road with you. Call a friend, use a ride share app, but don’t drive drunk. Don’t ring in 2019 at county jail. Do the right thing.
PPD has arrested 11 after a protest which began around 1:30pm at the inter. of Franklin St. and Marginal Way. All were charged with -Obstructing A Public Way- and were taken to the CCJ. Both exit ramps were blocked and traffic in the area was affected. PPD left the area at 3pm.

Too often these acts go unnoticed.
And yea, he's not wearing any gloves 💯🙌🏽
At 4:08 PM officer's responded to the area of Portland St @ Oxford St for a stabbing. A male was stabbed during an altercation and has been transported to MMC with non-life threatening injuries. We feel there is no danger to the public.

Had a call for a turtle laying her eggs in a driveway off of Westbrook St. Our ACO is going to give the homeowner a lesson on turtle reproduction and we hope to see some little ones in the near future.
Fun fact: preference of football team is not included in the extensive hiring process for police officers in Portland. This means that although the Patriots are New England’s team, we will still consider you if you’re a Cowboys, Giants or even a Jets fan. If those even exist...
We will

the innocent lives lost on 09/11/2001. We will

If you see Officers Huff, Bannon, Hurley, and Knight during their downtown footbeat, feel free to stop and say hi. They’re very friendly and surprisingly photogenic.
Please remember to layer-up, and not to linger outside for longer than necessary. We are Mainers, however, we are also humans and not immune to cold weather related complications. Bundle up, Portland.
Happy thanksgiving to all of our men and women working the road today, and all officers working nationwide. We appreciate your dedication to the communities you serve, and your willingness to be away from your families to ensure others can have a safe holiday.
I’m glad everyone enjoyed the video of the k-9’s testing out their winter boots. I was going to make one of officers trying on our new boots but was told that our followers wouldn’t find that as interesting...
It is with great pleasure to announce, in just a few minutes, Chief Frank Clark will be sworn in as the new Police Chief of the Portland Police Department. Warmest congratulations, Chief. We are excited to have you on board. Photos to follow.
Congratulations to Officer Michelle Cole on being selected for Officer of the Month. Officer Cole has been a police officer with Portland for 24 years. She is currently working her fourth certified canine, K9 Barni, a Department of Homeland Security explosives detection canine.
Happy anniversary,
@PortlandFD
! To celebrate, we will donate the full series of “Cops” on DVD. Ya know, so you don’t have to wait for the re-runs to air while you’re at the station waiting for a call.
It’s starting to get icy, so please be careful out there, because crashing into Santa is an automatic ticket to the naughty list. Also, it’s not written in Maine motor vehicle law so don’t hold us to it, but we’re pretty sure a flying sleigh always has the right of way.
Congratulations to one of our dispatchers, Natalia R., for being named PPD Civilian of the Month for September 2020! (Yes...we are running a few months behind! LOL) Thank you Natalia for your hard work and dedication to the job!!! Pictured is Natalia with PPD Chief Clark!
