There is a nursing shortage because everyone has covid. There is a blood shortage. There is an IV potassium shortage. We keep talking about how the hospital system is at the brink of collapse, but girlies, it is already collapsing
@coolnameliz1
Yeah honestly a green flag. Sounds like he's a bit more chill and she's looking for someone who's going to wine and dine her. I think he dodged a bullet
I remember a white man in my masters program prior to med school telling me that it's hardest for his demographic to get into med school...
A reminder that I was one of 2 Black people who graduated in my med school class of 260.
This MD was a scam. I worked hard in college so I could work hard in my masters so I could work hard in med school so I could work hard in residency so I could work hard in fellowship so I could work hard until retirement???
Just thinking about how my new gyno asked me if I've considered getting my tubes removed since I don't want kids
Me. A 30 year old nulliparous single woman. Given this as a reasonable option. Needless to say, I love my new gyn
@screamingmd
But honestly if ice cream and a walk ate going well, it can always be extended into another activity. If it's going poorly than it's easy to end it early
A reminder that I once taught math to budding LAPD police cadets and they were the dumbest 18 year olds I'd ever met. Was teaching them the same things I was tutoring a 6th grader. Forever will influence my opinion of the police
I get 4 days off a month, every month. And I am on pager 24hrs a day
Since everyone these days thinks they're a medical professional, please cover my shifts. I'd love a break
I got into my med school because I emailed the admissions director & asked for an interview. She called me to discuss ways to make myself competitive for the next cycle. I told her I already had acceptances but wanted to go there. She gave me the interview and then the acceptance
My friend kicked one of her bridesmaids out of her wedding because she refused to get vaccinated. Her wedding requires mandatory vaccination to attend. So much respect.
I've lost 23ish lbs and my friend asked if I "feel better" now that I'm a normal bmi
The answer is no. I felt fine before and I feel the same now. My activity level hasn't changed. Being thinner is purely cosmetic 🤷🏾♀️
When applying to residency, I specifically only applied to geographical locations where I was less likely to experience racism from patients
If something like this has never crossed your mind, you have more to learn when it comes to
#BlackMedTwitter
Had a pt refuse remdesivir and request fenofibrate for covid. Glad to be in the know for the next hot medication that does nothing for covid but gets popularized anyway
I matched my
#7
choice for residency. I was devastated. I hadnt even imagined a future at that program. Plus, the match triggered the end of my last relationship. I was still complaining even once residency started. And you know what? I never grew to love it.
I swear I'm going to fight
Guys. Physicians mostly are making $200k+ a year. Most physicians will be in the to 5-10% of earners in the US. You will be wealthy as a physician.
I literally don't care about your opinion or what expensive city you live in. You are objectively rich
The # 1 person in my med school class didnt match ophtho and SOAPed into ENT. The system is broken. You not matching is not a reflection of how good you are
Pt has severe mucositis after chemo. I tell the primary team to put her on a PCA. They are shocked
Pt has sickle cell crisis. I tell the team to ask him what works for his pain. They are shocked.
Guys. This shit hurts. Why have them suffer?
Inserting identity politics and disregarding academic merit in medical school applications is a dangerous trend that is destroying the integrity of our institutions.
Today, I am proud to introduce my bill, the EDUCATE Act, which bans DEI initiatives from medical schools across
My sister is very anemic from fibroid bleeding, so I told her she should get a blood transfusion that would buy her time until iron infusions could be set up (and a surgery). Now why are my sister and mom fighting me (the hematologist) about if it's necessary?!?
Oh no. I have way too many new followers. Guys, I will disappoint you if you're looking for medical tweets. I will 100% tweet about leftist politics, dating, and literally anything that comes to my mind. You have been warned
Hip fracture. Ortho requested to admit to medicine for blood sugar control.
Me: 🙄 how high are his sugars?
Them: 580. Hgba1c ">16.4"
Me: lol. Ok. We'll admit
Why buying FIGS doesn't make sense:
- you can't wear them in the OR. So their use is very limited
- med students and residents are poor so why spend $100 for scrubs when you can get them for free?
This isn't to say that you can't be sad or don't complain about falling down your rank list. By all means DO!
This is to say that in the end, it is what you make of it. And you'll still get to be a doctor in that field if that's what you want
There's an attending who is single, no kids, moonlights a bunch, and essentially makes the salary of 2 people. People wonder what he does with all of his money
The dream.
Obesity is an FDA-approved indication for ozempic. So is a BMI >/=27 + a comorbidity. Diabetics are not the only ones clinically indicated for it. We need to stop this narrative. Blame production problems on the company not the users
"These Ozempic prescriptions are being given out like candy by these diet centers and, even by some physicians, to people.."
@uche_blackstock
on the accessibility of the diabetes drug many are using for weight-loss

6 months ruined an entire generation because you had to stay home?!?!
Well for a year healthcare professionals constantly had to put their life and mental health at risk taking care of covid pts but ok.
Why don’t more people talk about what the Covid lockdowns did to young people like me?
At 15 years old, I was involuntarily isolated from my friends for SIX MONTHS. I didn’t see them, I didn’t meet them.
The lockdowns RUINED young people like me. An entire Generation.
Starting to go on dates with men who are out of 10+ year relationships/marriages and this is so ideal. All the good guys that were taken are becoming available again lol
I matched at my 7th choice residency and my 2nd choice fellowship and while I can't say I loved every second of it, I'm about to start a faculty position that 4th year med student me could've never dreamed I'd get
No matter how today goes for you, good things are coming!
A pts daughter is reporting me for telling the pt their new cancer diagnosis
Apparently, she told the primary team that she didn't want the diagnosis told to the patient, but no one shared that with the onc team 🙃
My mentor voluntold me to present during a case-off at a conference. Of course I said yes and was planning to just do the work for exposure per usual. Turns out, they are paying for my hotel, paying me a $1500 honorarium, and $25/person who registers for the conference w/ my name
I wouldn't order metoprolol IV for a patient in sinus tachycardia so the nurses went behind my back and called the nocturnist (who knows nothing about the pt and does not get signout on them) and she put it in for them 🙃
So I matched my 7th choice residency. On match day I was devastated. During orientation I was bitter. I stopped complaining (mostly), but never was happy about where I ended up
I matched at my 2nd choice for fellowship, at a top program and things do work out in the end
I truly cannot believe how mad people are about this. Kudos to all those women who clearly worked hard for their spots. And fuck you to all the ppl blaming "wokeness" and calling them "diversity" hires
How to succeed as an intern:
1. Know your patients! That means getting a signout on your patients before you start a rotation. It means knowing what's happening and WHY it's happening. As you progress through the year, know basics about all the patients on the team (1/?)
The residents all went on their annual retreat (where they essentially drink and party for 3 days) and now people are "feeling a little sick" and are testing positive for covid
Like???? Duh! We can't be surprised when none of them got tested before the retreat 🤦🏾♀️
I can't believe that I ignored my own self care to work on the frontlines of a pandemic only for people to literally refuse to end it
I hate how my body has changed after being drafted in this war. I don't think I will ever forgive those who refused to take this seriously
Research is so dumb
I just got an email that said I'm listed as a co-author on a submitted paper I know nothing about because the heme/onc department likes to help us pad our resumes. It's all a made up game 🙄🙃
@RiderToast
Ok so I know this family. 7 kids. 5/6 of them went to med school (one isn't old enough yet) and of those 5, 4 of them went to Jefferson (where Wills Eye is and where their parents are both world renowned ophthalmologist). Nepotism has never worked so hard
Just found out that like 1/3 of the nurses on the bone marrow transplant unit aren't vaccinated (despite the institution mandate) and are actively pursuing "religious exemption"
I think they should all be fired because f**k them! Our patients literally have no immune system
While internal medicine isn't a sexy field to go into, we know so much about all of adult medicine and it's so underrated. Easily some of the smartest people in the hospital
Confused as to why someone felt the need to dox me because they didn't believe that I was 1 of 2 Black people who graduated in my med school class. I fucking swear people on this app are the worst
