In generation 4, it is stated that the Poketch only comes in two models, a blue for boys and a pink for girls. However, Barry uses an orange Poketch.
This is explained in Pokemon Adventures, where an orange one was produced to avoid confusion between the three.

I wonder about what they'll do with the poketch in BDSP. I'm acutely aware they've emphasized how "faithful" these games will be.
But this is such a good opportunity to do something creative and have fun with it, yknow.

What if it was for medical purposes? Like a med bracelet, to show this person requires certain medical standards during certain events. Cause he was sick all the time.

Well considering that Barry's father is a Tower Tycoon, he could've had connections, one of which could be to the Poketch Company, and he could've hooked his son up with a Poketch of his favorite color. A present from dad.
