The two survivors, Jones and The Loopbreaker, are ultimately successful in their efforts: the Genesis Core reboots and re-shuffles all of the Island's matter to create a new one.

The Genesis Core needs an energy boost to start the reboot. Slone, feeling guilty for causing so much destruction, gives a final farewell and sacrifices herself, devastating her love, Jones.

This helps, but more action is needed, so the squad plan to essentially “reboot” the Genesis Core and build a new Island.
