At the same time, total amounts of money in Polish single-PI grants are comparable to or higher than those offered by NSF & DOE. 🇵🇱 also has access to ERC grants which are much higher (even than NIH). This should be a wake-up call to our universities & governments. Will it be?4/4

For example, our overhead rates are often ~60% or more (as opposed to 20% in 🇵🇱), our increasingly large grad. tuition fees (in my univ. ~50% of student stipend) are charged to the grants (no such thing in 🇵🇱), and healthcare costs, charged to grants too, are larger & larger. 3/4

I’m sorry to say this, but the situation in the US, when it comes to scientific research, is deteriorating. Our funding levels are too low and universities are charging enormous costs to federal grants that leave us with less and less money to fund PhD students and postdocs. 2/4

Based on my visits to 🇵🇱, conditions for pursuing PhD & postdoctoral work offered by the most research active groups in 🇵🇱 are nowadays better than those offered by most US universities. Consider Polish universities when applying for PhD studies & postdocs. 1/4

@MichalTomza @stsforum @NCN_PL @Domanski_Andrz @donaldtusk Great idea, Michal! I hope Polish government does what you are suggesting. There is a lot of great talent and creative science done in Poland. Poland is doing very well economically, so I hope that a voice like yours is listened too. 🤞

We’ve completed a project in which Prof. Achintya Dutta and his @iitbombay group, working closely with @KGururangan, who defended his PhD with me in March, extended full & approximate DIP-EOMCCSDT(4h-2p) methods to a relativistic 4-component framework. See

MDMM 2025 is in full swing. I just gave my talk on H3+ formation from halogens and pseudohalogens based on a paper that we published earlier this year in @NatureComms ( https://t.co/deKKzVKMjl). When I walk to a conference venue each day, I have very nice views; example attached.

EUCMOS 2025 in Wrocław is organized perfectly, both in the scientific program and in cultural and social events around it. Today, we had a great concert by Teresa (soprano) and Tomasz (piano) Marut ( https://t.co/7rH2UJGvFx) in Oratorium Marianum at @uniwroc. A few pics attached.
