Nothing good can come from fresh tensions and clashes along the Afghan/Pakistani border - a fragile frontier, theatre of conflict, forced displacement and humanitarian crises for decades. For the sake of those impacted and of regional stability let’s hope for rapid de-escalation.

The recent earthquake has affected more than 500,000 people in E Afghanistan — aid from donors, including Pakistan, is vital and welcome. Especially given the circumstances, I appeal to the @GovtofPakistan to pause the implementation of the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan.

As 1 Sept rapidly approaches @UNHCRPakistan is asking @GovtofPakistan to extend the period for #Afghan refugees to return voluntarily as they are doing 👇🏼, to facilitate visas for students in universities and for other with links to 🇵🇰, and to protect those afraid to return

Disappointed to see the decision of @GovtofPakistan to return Afghan refugees. At a minimum, @Refugees urges @GovtofPakistan to ensure POR cardholders are given a decent time frame to arrange their return in dignity and can take their belongings.

In spite of large-scale returns to Afghanistan, @UNHCR trusts that #Pakistan will continue to uphold its longstanding role as a steward of refugee protection in particular for vulnerable groups and registered refugees.
