🐠#URIGSO Ph.D. student @PhilipFYang is exploring little-known mesophotic coral ecosystems at depths of 30 to 150 meters in the Gulf of Mexico. Last summer, benthic landers were deployed near Desoto Rim as part of the @NOAA Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities (MDBC) project⬇️

What started as a class paper on the biogeography of microbial function blossomed into a conceptual model on how the world operates. Congrats to first-time first author @PhilipFYang and the rest of the undergrad team.
