I still remember him sharing how his parents had pleaded with him not to enter the restaurant industry after their own years of hard work in the field.

His contributions to the SF and API community were boundless. I had the privilege of meeting him at a nonprofit fundraiser, where he was serving his iconic garlic noodles long after Slanted Door had established itself as one of San Francisco’s most beloved restaurants.

Deeply shocked and saddened to learn of Charles Phan's passing. Charles brought Vietnamese cuisine to extraordinary heights, proving that Asian food could be presented in stunning settings while delivering unforgettable flavors.
