I’m so lucky I had the opportunity to truly understand Doyle’s greatness by sitting across the table from him. “Legend” feels inadequate. We don’t have a word for what Doyle Brunson is to poker. Rest in Peace ♥️

This table is a good start! Obviously chips & cards won’t work, but we could use a screen with digital chips & cards. Replace the flimsy plastic dividers with the sturdy walls of people’s homes. Use the internet. Then legalize & regulate safe online poker across the USA.

Today, I took a very hard look in the mirror. Then, I sat down and wrote something that was very uncomfortable for me, but that I felt needed to be said. I hope these will be the most negative words you ever read from me:

Over the past 15 years, I’ve played poker in a number of high-pressure situations. Nothing came close to feeling as intense as today did. I’m overwhelmed, exhausted, and most of all, grateful. There are so many people to thank that I don’t know where to begin.

We so often criticize the plays we see on TV from the comfort of our couches. I think it’s only fair to also give credit where credit is due. I recently watched @phil_hellmuth on @PokerGO ’s #HighStakesDuel & wrote down some thoughts.

Mike Sexton the player, Mike Sexton the commentator & Mike Sexton the businessman would each be a poker legend in their own right. What makes him the ultimate role model for me isn’t how much he accomplished & did for poker, but that he did it all while being positive and kind.

If you think you're "in a downsing," you might be causing it. You’re not "in" anything. Your bankroll was X. You lost Y. Now your bankroll is X-Y. This is where you are. Where you were doesn’t matter. Choose appropriate stakes, set goals, make a plan & go play. You got this 💪🏻

16 Questions I ask myself during every poker hand: 1. What is my hand? (obvious but necessary) 2. Can I get value from this hand? 3. Where is this hand in my overall range? 4. Does it have good blocker qualities? 5. What is my next action trying to accomplish? 6. Are there hands…

I took big bankroll risks early in my career. With $90k, I played $10k NL & lost $45k. With $800k, I played $60k NL & lost $400k. After each, I mentally reset, moved down & rebuilt. Either could've ended my career if I wasn't willing to do so. Do I recommend shot-taking?…

90% of successful poker players underestimate what they'd be capable of outside of poker. The other 10% don't overestimate it. They just think they're ready for the big leagues too soon. Success in poker indicates great potential, but it takes time to learn the next game.

The best hands to play in multiway pots are ones with the most near-nut potential. A4s, KTs, 88 all go up in value. "Top pair hands" like KQo and AJo go down in value. Weaker suited hands like 75s don't do well unless you fold them - in which case they'd have flopped a boat.

Don't waste mental energy hoping your opponent bets, fearing an ugly turn card, or regretting the call you just made. No matter what happens, each time the action is on you, you have an opportunity to make the perfect decision. Focus on doing that. Then focus on doing it again.

What drew me to poker as a career was, unlike most, education, experience & connections didn’t matter. Office politics didn’t matter. Show up & play best, you’ll be rewarded. That beautiful equality is dying. Right or wrong, fair or not, personal impact aside, that makes me sad

I’ve played one #WSOP event this summer. I have one cash and one final table, but I didn’t win it. I’m still sad about it and now I want to play more events, so that I can almost definitely be sad again. This is what tournament poker is all about.

After almost 5 months, 25k hands & $730k, another #GalfondChallenge is in the books. I was very unpleasantly surprised by how well @ChancesCards played. He tested my game in ways no other opponents had, exposing weaknesses I wasn’t aware of, and I’m stronger now for it. gg

Idk how MMA scoring works but I committed to arbitrating so I'm gonna call this one 1.5 points for Berkey?

@elonmusk @StationCDRKelly What? He didn’t say that ostracizing those who don’t use your pronouns is good & kind. He said the LGBTQ+ community is marginalized & at risk of violence, that they are real people with real feelings, and that you mocked them. So which of those do you “strongly disagree” with?

"I'm at the bottom of my range, so I have to bluff" Are you playing LLinusLove or BERRI SWEET heads up? No? Then you don't have to bluff. You should only bluff if you think it's more profitable than checking and losing. It's really that simple.

After my last post about the rough start to the #GalfondChallenge , I heard from a lot of people who were experiencing a downswing and appreciated hearing about my experience. Here’s an update and some thoughts. (Part 1/2)
