When Nissan abandoned its program to build a supercar, the latter firm offered it to TOYOTA , which eagerly took advantage of the opportunity to build a sports car. The production 2000GT was fabricated entirely by hand, and the luxurious interior included a rosewood dash.

American Express came up with the idea to offer a limited, 100-car run of 24-kt gold-plated DeLoreans exclusively for their gold card members. The gold-plated car was listed in their Christmas catalog for a staggering $85k – this included a required $10k deposit upon ordering

In the movie, The Island, the Lincolns evade capture in Tom’s “2009 Caddy” - already a decade old within the narrative. The car was based on the real-world 2002 Cadillac Cien, a dramatic concept vehicle built to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary.

Ferrari 512BBi! Insistent on maintaining a front-engine layout for his company’s vehicles, Enzo Ferrari would not accept a mid-engine design for a Ferrari-badged production car until the BB series was introduced in the 70s. The series, whose name was short for “berlinetta boxer.”

This is the last #Ferrari Barchetta (Italian for “little boat”) ever built and the last non-racing Ferrari bodied by Touring. It was ordered by the #Ford Motor Company in the name of Henry Ford II and delivered new with a three- #carburetor 225 engine and left-hand drive.

The 1970 Automotive dream-car, Lancia HF Stratos Zero concept car. Arrow-like lines spoke of speed and the future, and stylists at Bertone were at the thin edge of the wedge. Stratos prototype: strikingly sculptural, functional, and perhaps the lowest car ever at only 33” tall.

The #EV1 was the first modern, mass-produced #EV built by a major manufacturer. It was aerodynamic, light, had an acceptable commuting range and could be easily driven by the average motorist. After four years of costly production the EV1 was discontinued.

The 1965 Corwin Getaway was an ambitious idea fueled by the African-American community, a Panasonic dealer and a Subaru engine. It is a compact mid-engined sports car that was developed and built in Los Angeles, California in the mid to late 1960s. Only a single example survives.

When Robert Zemeckis and Robert Gale conceived of the first film, the DeLorean was cast, in part, because the car’s gullwing doors made it look like an alien spaceship. Over time, the DeLorean eventually emerged as a character of its own, undergoing progressive transformations.

Powered by a Chrysler #Hemi engine, the low slung, fiberglass Bosley had a publicized top speed of more than 160 miles per hour. Built at a cost of over $9,000, this prototype remained the only Bosley GT Mark I ever produced.

Driven by the villain Zao in the #Bond movie DIE ANOTHER DAY, this sporty convertible was heavily modified for filming. Both Zao’s Jaguar and Bond’s Aston Martin were rebuilt on shortened Ford Explorer 4WD chassis for better grip and handling on ice. @007

When Carroll Shelby dropped an American V-8 engine into a lightweight British roadster, he created one of the most important American sports cars in motorsport history. This Cobra (chassis #CSX2001) is the first production car built and the first to enter competition.

The Fiat Shellette was a beach car popular amongst the wealthy seaside residents of the early 1970s. The car was equipped with a fringed canopy for weather protection but no doors. The seats were made from wicker to make them less susceptible to damage caused by wet bathing suits

The development of the MC12 signaled Maserati’s return to the track after nearly four decades. Just 30 examples were built in 2004, five of which were retained by the factory, but customer reaction was so positive that an additional 25 were produced one year later.

James Hetfield’s drawing of the “ultimate cool shape” for an automobile inspired the silhouette of “The Black Pearl.” The car began as a project to customize a 1948 Jaguar sedan, but ultimately a completely new aluminum body was constructed.

The #EB110 was the first #bugatti built since production of the company’s automobiles ceased in 1963. Meant to evoke the mystique of original Bugattis, the mid-engined car was called the EB110 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Ettore Bugatti’s birth.

Created to showcase hydrogen fuel-cell tech, the XP-1 is the first vehicle by Hyperion Motors. While it has an all-electric drive system, the XP-1 will use hydrogen fuel cells for energy storage in place of batteries, making it lighter and giving it a range of almost 1,000 miles.

Designed by Vel’s Parnelli Jones Racing, Big Oly was one of the first purpose-built off-road race cars to compete at Baja. Big Oly was raced from 1970-1974 and accumulated numerous victories, including back-to-back wins at the Baja 1000 in 1971 and 1972.

The Alpine A110 was produced from 1961-1977 and became famous for its performance in rally racing. While all A110 bodies were constructed of fiberglass, factory team cars, like this example, were made even lighter by removing any unnecessary weight by utilizing plastic components

Designer Keith Kaucher worked with owner Melanie Orr to create the custom “Lectrified” from a 1960 Buick LeSabre convertible. Fabricated by JH Restorations and Customs, the car combines custom body panels that reference mid-century dream cars with modern elements.

The original 1966 Batmobile from Lincoln’s Futura concept car of 1955, retained the shark-like contours and bubble top of the Futura, it was painted gray with white stripes. However, after screening, it was repainted in black with cerise highlights to make it “pop” on screen!

One of the most successful designs at the Indianapolis 500 in the period, and the second car McLaren developed for the race, the M16 was inspired by the low, wedge-shaped design of the Lotus Type 72 Formula 1 car.

De Alba covered almost every surface of El Rey with a combination of custom candy paint, chrome plating, and metal etching. El Rey has been called the “pinnacle of modern lowrider culture,” and it has garnered admiration from communities both in and outside of lowriding.

Of the seven Ford GT40 Mark IIIs built, only four were delivered with left hand drive like this car. This rare street-legal example (serial #MK3 1105) was originally owned by well-known Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan, who drove it sparingly—and never in the rain.

Utilizing a revised design by Satoru Nozaki, the production Toyota 2000GT was fabricated entirely by hand, and the luxurious interior included a rosewood dash and signal-seeking radio. Toyota demonstrated that it could not only build a stylish car, but a performance-oriented one.

The FBI took delivery of the limousine in March 1942 and Franklin D. Roosevelt used it frequently in and around Washington DC. It was also shipped overseas and served as his ground transport during his historic conference with Stalin and Churchill at Yalta in February 1945.

The Alpine A110 was produced from 1961-1977 and became famous for its performance in rally racing. While all A110 bodies were constructed of fiberglass, factory team cars, like this example, were made even lighter by removing any unnecessary weight by utilizing plastic components

This is the last Ferrari Barchetta ever built and the last non-racing Ferrari bodied by Touring. It was ordered by the Ford Motor Company in the name of Henry Ford II and delivered new with a three-carburetor 225 engine and left-hand drive.

The McLaren M10A was one of the first monocoque cars built for Formula 5000 racing. McLaren, like many major manufacturers including Eagle and Lola, was enticed to build cars for the series after its rules were amended to allow for 5.0-liter engines. @McLaren @ArrowMcLarenSP

When a two-liter restriction on engine displacement was introduced, Miller debuted the 122, replacing the 183, for the 1923 season. This 122 initially competed with a n-a engine, but became the first supercharged Miller when it was fitted with a small centrifugal supercharger.
