So much of what I know about CDR came from working with @GianaAmador. She's always had a clear vision for whats needed next, and how to push towards that goal with gusto. I'm grateful that Giana joined us for a short conversation on her vision for the future. Take a look!

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Carbon Unbound is returning to the West Coast in January, but this time in beautiful Vancouver! CU excels at bringing the right climate leaders and innovators together to discuss how to move CDR forward. Hope to see you there! ๐Ÿ‘‰ Learn more here: https://t.co/PEU7qIjBuf

Too many carbon credits are built on hope, not proof. A new piece from @CanaryMediaInc exposes deep flaws in how many carbon offset projects are designed and verified. The report highlights a familiar problem across the voluntary carbon market: shaky baselines, inconsistent

Want to tip my cap to @absclimate's Grant Faber for making this, the "Carbon Dioxide Removal Company List" it's got everyone, and is a throwback to the ambitious-kids-embark-on-a-science-adventure energy that make early 2021 climatetech a cool place. https://t.co/X79Hm1SNFH

At @absclimate, we believe innovation can solve the existing challenges in carbon markets. But thats only possible if we have the best team in the world. For this reason, Iโ€™m unreasonably excited to share the newest member of the A-team: Grant Faber.

๐Ÿ’จ Youโ€™re about to hear a lot about short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) ๐Ÿ’จ Mitigating them brings strong climate benefits. But should these projects be used to compensate for COโ‚‚? It's complicated. @NoahMcQueen13 and I have co-authored a white paper that digs into why๐Ÿ‘‡

Our hope is that this paper can help set the budding SLCP mitigation industry on the right path, and ensure that project claims match atmospheric impacts.

Using those learnings, weโ€™ve created a framework that describes responsible accounting practices if the two types of greenhouse gases are compared in a crediting and offsetting context. We introduce 5 core principles that should be present in all high-accountability approaches:

Our white paper lays out the opportunities, risks, and considerations that go along with such a proposal. As veterans of the carbon removal industry, our experiences have been shaped by lessons from COโ‚‚ accounting, where we have seen both progress and pitfalls.

What are SLCPs? They're gases + particles that remain in the atmosphere for much shorter periods than COโ‚‚ โ€“ typically years or less โ€“ but cause much more potent warming. Projects that reduce/remove them can yield rapid climate benefits, and meaningfully reduce harm.

As Absolute Climateโ€™s Standards Lead, Grant will be in charge of continuing to develop the Absolute Carbon Standard. Heโ€™ll also be pioneering new certification capabilities that will be FOAK for our field, that we expect will be transformational.
