Proud great-grandson of Leicester suffragette Alice Hawkins, reluctant oldie
Northamptonshire
Joined August 2018
After an early start, my first school visit of the academic year, speaking of Alice. With the suffragette movement being the year 6 topic, should be a great day of questions and discussion. Highfield schools have the best lunches too!

As a state pensioner, I never agreed with receiving the winter fuel allowance whether I needed it or not and gave the payment to my local food bank. State funds should go to those in genuine need and not just to buy votes. I will still make my donation to the food bank each year.

So my 20th and final school visit of the academic year, speaking of suffragette great granny Alice's fight for 'the vote' will be July 4th! Booked many months ago, I should have placed a bet on it being election day!

Woman of the Day shoe machinist, trade unionist and suffragette Alice Hawkins (1863-1946) of Stafford, who was arrested OTD in 1907 with 28 other women marching from Hyde Park to the House of Commons to demand votes for women when twenty police on horses mounted a brutal charge

Thank you Adam. Without your great support over the years, none of what we have achieved would have been possible.
I joined Peter Barratt & sisters to receive his Honoured Citizen Award from Lord Mayor Cllr Susan Barton at the Town Hall today. Peter’s work promoting his great grandmother Alice Hawkins, & her role within the suffragette movement, has inspired, entertained and educated many👏

For the next two years, the Leicester market place has relocated next to the statue of great granny Alice Hawkins. A lady on the fruit and veg just pointed to her and said, 'that's are Alice'. Brilliant. Spot on.

My first visit of the academic year. A really enjoyable school to spend the day with, talking of Alice.
If anyone is studying the suffragette movement, I can not recommend @PeterBarratt12 enough. Our Year 6 children were hooked to ever word. Peter is the great grandson of the famous Alice Hawkins who lived in Leicester during the movement #edchat #ks2
