Mark Mathews, Head Coach of the Peru State softball team, passed away on December 24. Through his 24 seasons as head coach, his teams had won 584 games, which is over 70% of all of the wins in Bobcat softball history. His full obituary is here:

For those who are not aware, this is one of two very important “birthdays” for Peru State College. Today, in 1867, the first term of school began with about 70 students, 32 of whom were enrolled in the normal (teaching) department.

Joy Scanlan and her husband had no boys, just their own volleyball team. All five daughters grew up playing, and now officiating seems to run in the family.
That makes cheering for just one team on Wednesday difficult.
