I was once an admirer of Ron DeSantis. In the first 18 months of the pandemic, I thought he showed mostly sensible leadership, especially compared to Trump, whom I knew was badly mismanaging the national response. One of the reasons I left MAGA, however, was after DeSantis.

There are some in MAGA who will suffer injury, death and trauma from FL's decision to eliminate vaccine mandates. When this occurs--and it will--it is important we welcome them, which might lead to them leaving MAGA, eventually.

People in MAGA are kept in perpetual states of desperation, panic, despair, fear, paranoia, hopelessness and nihilism. One of the methods used by Trump, and MAGA politicians and pundits, is to cast aspersions on science, expertise and education. It is true that no.
@PerfectOurUnion I'm really interested in your opinion. I get the political differences but WHY are they messing with our public health? I don't get it. Why do they believe conspiracy theories? Even MAGAs want to be healthy, don't they?.

One of the mythologies I had believed in MAGA was that Democrats and liberals were the profligate spenders, and Republicans were the wise spenders. This is not to say that Democratic politicians haven’t wasted, but, like most of the beliefs I held, this was another falsehood.

If you’re reading this, chances are someone in your life, who you care about, is still trapped in the thrall of MAGA. You may feel like they are lost forever. I, and our Leaving MAGA leaders, are proof that they're not. People can change and grow. People can recognize when.

That’s why I founded Leaving MAGA. We’re amplifying the voices of those who’ve left MAGA and creating a community for people to process their experiences, reconcile with their past, and begin healing.

But that’s when I found a new community. I began to hear from other people just like me, one-time supporters who felt the pull to walk away. People who needed to talk to someone else who had been there. And friends and family of those in MAGA desperately reached out to me, eager.

In the months that followed, I wrestled with what leaving MAGA really meant. I had been such a loud, visible supporter. I knew that my public actions in support of Donald Trump had caused harm. And I knew that I could only begin to heal that harm by going public with my rejection.
