This is a pattern by Canberra. In 2020, the Australian Ambassador met Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing who posted the details & photo on his website to boost his legitimacy. It's disappointing to see Australia letting Myanmar generals use them like this.

I think it's a mistake of @marisepayne to laud an ASEAN meeting which has resulted in vague commitments but no action. Still no targeted sanctions from 🇦🇺 since Myanmar's military coup on February 1. Hundreds of people have been killed, thousands detained.

The women’s prison director in Herat, #Afghanistan has been missing since October 2021 & is feared to have been forcibly disappeared. Alia Azizi had worked under the former government but returned to her job after the Taliban took over Herat in August.

So disappointing that only 26 people on board the ADF evacuation flight. Every seat should be filled - Afghanistan is in crisis, military planes are the only ones that are leaving. Security vetting can be done in 3rd countries, so many Afghans at risk.

New from @burmacampaignuk there are at least 13 countries still involved in training the Myanmar military. Pretty shameful that Australia is one of them alongside Russia, China, North Korea, Belarus, Cambodia etc. More here:

Great that Kirin finally cut ties with Myanmar's MEHL, a military-owned conglomerate. Shame it took a coup to do it. There is a 🇦🇺 connection - Kirin is the parent company of Lion (who owns Little Creatures, James Squire, XXXX, Tooheys, James Boags)
