The last pieces of steel of the bridge’s main span were installed last week. Soon, crews will align the main span to be level with the north approach before the final connection.

Deck panel & rebar installation has been completed over Front St. and Columbia St. in @New_Westminster. Now, crews are pouring the concrete bridge deck in this area. Seen here, 1,000m3 of concrete has already been poured!

Crews continue to make progress with bridge finishing activities, including recently paving the first layer of asphalt on most of the south approach in @CityofSurrey. This bottom layer of asphalt is 50mm thick!

Check out the different stages of paving on the bridge deck in @CityofSurrey! Waterproofing can be seen as crews prepare to pave a base layer of asphalt. Waterproofing is a protective layer placed on concrete before the road is paved. On the right, asphalt paving has begun.

Check out this birds-eye view of paving work on the bridge’s south approach in @CityofSurrey! Once the bridge deck construction is complete, waterproofing is placed to protect the concrete bridge deck. Then, crews pave the asphalt road surface.

Here’s a look at progress on the “end span” – the concrete deck is being installed to connect the bridge deck from @CityofSurrey to the bridge tower. Crews are preparing to install the remaining deck panels to continue forming this area of the bridge deck!

Preparation for concrete deck pours is underway for the bridge’s north approach in @New_Westminster! This work includes reinforcing steel placement, formwork construction, and overhang bracket installation.

Here’s a closer look at stay cable installation at the bridge tower. In this photo from August 4th, 66 of 80 total stay cables have been installed!

Bridge finishing works are underway on the main span! This work includes concrete finishing and the installation of safety fencing, lighting, utilities, and traffic barriers. The new bridge is 1,235 metres long and spans the 530 metre-wide Fraser River!

Check out this unique birds-eye view of stay cable installation from the top of the bridge tower! These strong cables are made of many metal strands in a protective tubing. They connect to the bridge tower and bridge deck to support the bridge structure.

In this photo from early July, crews are installing concrete deck panels on the “end span” – the final girders installed to connect the bridge deck from @CityofSurrey to the bridge tower. Once bridge deck construction is complete, paving will be done on top!
