On December 27, 1968, the USS Yorktown (CV-10) recovered the Apollo 8 capsule and the three astronauts on board. Apollo 8 was the first capsule to take humans in the vicinity of the moon. Over the course of the 6 day 3-hour mission, it circled the moon 10 times.

Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. We remember those who lost their lives when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Patriots Point Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Service starts at 11 a.m. Admission and parking will be waived for the service.
