Over 5,000 passengers have taken the journey since the Paradise Express first took flight in 2024. And over the next year, there’ll be thousands more. But it’s more than just a flight.

It’s wheels up on the Palau Paradise Express for another year. Because we’re extending our support for the non-stop flight that takes off in Brisbane and lands in Koror.

Some 40,000 of them never returned home. Forever and always - we remember their service and their sacrifice. Not just on Victory in the Pacific Day - but every day.

It’s been 80 years since WWII ended. From a nation of around 7 million, almost 1 million Australians served in our armed forces and merchant navy. These were ordinary Australians signing up in towns and cities across the country. And serving on battlefields across the Pacific.

An Agreement that’s all about deepening the connection between our two countries. With a focus on respect, shared values and cultural connections. Because Vanuatu and Australia share an ocean. And we share a future.

It’s all part of our $55 billion investment in the Navy’s surface combatant fleet. And it means tens of thousands of well-paid, highly skilled jobs here at home. I talk a lot about building a defence future made right here in Australia. This is what it looks like.

It’s a decision months ahead of schedule – and a decision that means our first frigate will be delivered in 2029. That’s five years earlier than planned by the former Coalition Government.

With eight of the eleven stealth frigates to be built right here in Australia – it means jobs not just for the next few years, but for the next generation. These frigates will secure our maritime trade routes and northern approaches – and deliver the capability we need.
