The gospel was being replaced with preferences, “wisdom,” and external “signs.” They viewed Christianity as a means of personal advancement, rather than dying to self. When the law becomes the main thing, the gospel will be missing. And in was missing in Corinth.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul has a lot he must address. The two most prominent issues are division and the gospel. The church was divided. They each wanted to follow their preferences, not the true teaching.

Psalm 62 is a beautiful psalm of comfort. In the midst of attack and uncertainty, we have rest and peace in The Rock. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.

But within these prophecies of judgment, there is hope. Egypt and Cush will one day be united with Jerusalem around the Messiah. Jesus brings nations together.

Yet Jerusalem doesn’t escape judgment. God’s people are not free to sin with impunity. God’s people are to be a light to the nations. But Jerusalem was failing to be this. Rather, they were just like the nations.

Week 34 Day 4 and 5.Isaiah 17-22.Psalm 62.1 Corinthians 1 and 2. Isaiah prophesied against the world powers and the rivals of Judah. God can and does humble even the mightiest.

Guy posts a valid critique of the ESV Study Bible and everyone in the comments thinks he’s knocking the ESV translation.

This has to be a juke to get everyone upset so that they’re happy when Cracker Barrel sticks with the old one.

In the last chapter of Matthew we hear the good news of the resurrection. Jesus died a brutal death, but He lives. He lives and death is defeated. He lives and sends His Church to make disciples through baptism and teaching. He lives and so will those who believe.

Week 34 Day 3.Isaiah 14-16.Matthew 28. In these chapters Isaiah prophesied of restoration and blessing for Judah and the downfall of the enemies of God’s people. Ultimately Isaiah is speaking of what Jesus will bring about in His return on the last day.

The King prophesied by Isaiah had come and was crucified. But as Psalm 118 said, “I will not die, but I will live.”. And so Jesus will rise in chapter 28. And so shall we rise.

In Matthew 27 we read of the mock trial and then the crucifixion of Jesus. Justice is not done by the earthly leaders. Yet God was using this so that He could be just in punishing sin and the justifier of all who trust in Jesus who paid the price in full.
