INGANJI KARINGA: . In 1943, Alexis Kagame, one of Rwanda’s most distinguished scholars, published Inganji Karinga (The Victorious Drums). At the time, Rwanda’s history, traditions, and political heritage were carried primarily in the minds and voices of elders, passed down

There’s an old story about a tower called Babel, told in many traditions. People built this tower to reach the heavens, but along the way, they lost something vital: their shared language. Suddenly, people couldn’t understand one another. Work stopped, progress stopped, and

I built in just one day: .Is vibecoding finally shifting the power from developers (those who can code) to domain experts (those who understand the problem but can't build a solution independently)?. Over the years, particularly when i was at Norrsken,

AI is evolving rapidly, and what seems advanced today will feel outdated just a few months from now. For decision-makers, the real planning question shouldn't be what AI can do today but “What will AI be able to do next?”.

Universities are currently hosting parties to welcome new students for the 2025-2026 academic year. It is also a signal that the process of recruiting students who will start in September 2026 is about to begin. If you have ambitions to study these ends, now is a perfect time

End of 2025 summer holidays 🌻. Time to go build some of the things we have reflected on in the past few weeks. The future holds incredible possibilities, but it won’t unfold by chance. With the power of AI, we have a unique chance to shape this future in once unimaginable

How about AI in tourism? . This post is the last in a short series I’ve been writing about real use cases of AI as a driver for African economic progress. I’ve spent the last two weeks in France, from Paris's craziness to the quiet green valleys of La Creuse in the geographical

Frontier AI models are expensive but they are not what you need for this use case. You can fine-tune a small open-weight model for Kinyarwanda and transaction tasks. That’s a few GPUs for days (weeks in the worst case scenario), costing under $10K. Inference is cheap too.

@ClaudineGasana The hardware needed to train or fine-tune a frontier model is expensive, and so is electricity and running inference. When the target customer is a small shop owner in Rwanda, it’s hard to justify anyone investing that kind of money.

You’re right, @EgideMurisa. Execution is where theory gets tested. However, the AI itself isn’t the hard part. The challenge is designing it so kiosk owners can adopt it without friction. From a an investor perspective, kiosks are transaction-heavy environments:. They have.

@ClaudineGasana Sounds good in theory, but easier said than done. What’s the ROI for an investor who puts up the resources to train the AI model and cover ongoing inference costs?.

Last year, in July, I visited 21 out of Rwanda’s 30 districts. From busy town centres to remote trading posts, one thing stood out everywhere I went, the heartbeat of the local economy was the small kiosk. These shops, often no bigger than a single room, keep communities
