Dr. Sabri Saidam, Deputy Secretary-General of Fatah and member of its central committee, accompanied by Amb. Hanan Jarrar joined ANC IR Committee Member, Cde Lindiwe Zulu in a wreath-laying ceremony at the OR Tambo Mausoleum to mark the start of the commemoration event.

The Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) and the African National Congress (ANC) celebrated sixty years of the fraternal and historic relations that have brought them together in a public gathering took place at OR Tambo Mausoleum in Ekurhuleni.

Dr. Saidam discussed avenues for deepening future collaboration between the University and Palestinian institutions—particularly crucial at a time when the education system in Palestine has faced severe interruption during the past two years of the genocide in Gaza.

Dr. Saidam and Amb. Jarrar also met with the leadership of the Faculty of Humanities, including the Deputy Dean and senior management. They discussed ongoing academic interventions, including its partnership on the annual Shireen Abu Akleh Memorial Lecture with Birzeit University

At the IIS, Dr. Saidam engaged with student entrepreneurs who showcased innovative projects in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Information Communication Technologies. The teams presented their leading solutions.

As part of his official visit to South Africa, Dr. Sabri Saidam, Special Envoy of H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas, undertook a working visit to the University of Johannesburg’s Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS), accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Hanan Jarrar.
