Catholic Church documents/teaching don’t support single issue voting and the denial of the equal importance of the sacredness of life beyond the womb is anti-Catholic. Apparently, Bishop Strickland is ignorant of this fact, taught and proclaimed by our Church from 1974 forward.

My dad was born 120 yrs ago today. He was extremely against my decision to enter the Priesthood. When I was kicked out of the seminary my 1st yr theology (for being too Black) he said you’re being stupid - leave! I said I can’t help being in love with God & God won’t let me go.

(1) Just became real emotional. In 1980 I was pulled over in Worthington, OH after a cop saw me pass his parked car. I had IL plates and he asked why was I driving here at 11:30p & said I had been driving erratically. I told him “WE” were on our way to an all-night restaurant ...

(3) ... that “we” had been pulled over for doing nothing. They just didn’t understand. I knew that by the grace of God a racist cop got stopped that night by seeing 2 White males in my car. I cried later that night after we got back to the Joss. Some Black males never get home.

Today is my 40th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. Sadly all the photos from my 1st 15 yrs of service, including those of my ordination Mass, were stolen during a break in. But this is a favorite photo I still have from a parish #HatDaySunday . I wore a #WhiteSox cap.

As I was leaving church after Mass a member stopped me saying she thought I was stirring up hatred. She said - “I don’t see color. I just see people.” I replied, well sad you don’t see color. You’re missing out on all the beautiful variety God has made. No color is boring. #IMHO

My faith in the American justice system wasn’t shaken today, because I have very little faith in the system. There’re people sitting in jails serving 20+ yrs based on far less evidence that was shown at the Trump trial. If you’re a rich man in the US you rarely have to worry.

Yes, there are people in this country who don’t like President Biden, especially accusing him of not protecting the sacredness of human life … BUT … his new policy on dealing with Covid and vaccinations is the biggest action uplifting the sacredness of life I’ve recently heard.

@ArmendarizDis16 I’m always saddened when I read a person like yourself who wants adult responsibilities either write something childish or ignorant. Please try to show you have respect for others by not misusing a tragedy to score cheap political points. #GunSafetyNOW

As I prepare to go to bed I’m placing before the Lord all those young adults whose depression is leading them to contemplate suicide. Just learned of two former parishioners I knew as teens have taken their lives this week. O Lord, lead these youth to find help & support. 😢😢

Just completed the Liturgy for #GoodFriday about 30 minutes ago. I’m always struck by the fact that, while all the miracles that Jesus performed were breathtaking & amazing, it is his willingness to die so painfully for humanity that changes everything in a broken world. God’s ❤️

I cringe when I hear legislators talk about the purpose of good education is creating a sustainable “work force” for future industries. Why can’t education be about enabling humans to have a fulfilling life - not just about how much money they can create for a dystopian society.

I don’t drink much 😜. But I know the danger of alcohol. I lived with a couple of addicts to alcohol. It was awful at times. AWFUL! I don’t believe that alcohol should be banned. America tried that once and it was a disaster. Abortion banning won’t stop abortion. Only more pain.

2nd year observing the Mass of the Lord’s Supper without a congregation because of the pandemic. Yet many Church members viewed via live streaming. Parish did a wonderful media presentation of members videos washing their family members feet, while the choir sang about service.

Striking that the same people who defended the memory of the Confederacy and Jim Crow, then the Southern border wall and separating families, embraced voting suppression and banning books, have now moved to praise Putin and a war against Ukraine. Evil leaves no stone unturned.

About a yr ago the “powers that be” in many states & localities were trying to move Heaven/Earth to “protect” kids from the tyranny of having to wear a mask. Laws passed overnight. Speeches on tv about loving children & families being able to attend school normally. Hypocrites!

Today I remember the lives of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner. James Chaney was Catholic. Goodman & Schwerner were Jewish. All 3 died helping others - all three witnessed the power and love of God.

I have not regrets in my choice to be a diocesan priest, but I realize that my inner being is really a Jesuit at heart. The influence of Jesuit spirituality was evident at #InaugurationDay , and the #Catholic faith’s best side was shown in the invitation to all to work together.

I had to turn off the #January6thCommittee hearing. The #CapitolPolice giving testimony today just me too emotional. I know the horrible feelings of being dismissed by religious superiors when racism and hatred has been directed toward you. I was told to suck it up & be quiet. 😡

Today I had the great joy of being at Mass with newly ordained priest, Fr. Carl Gales SVD, soon to be serving in Chicago. He continues to celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving, today in Decatur, Georgia at the parish he used to be the minister of music. God is good!

#MemorialDay - my family and I have been thinking about our cousin today, Milton Olive III, died in Vietnam, awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. May all who gave their lives serving for our country be remembered and Rest In Peace.

After I became a pastor (a Black parish) I was instructed by my diocese to visit Northside majority White parishes to ask for financial support. Being naive I did so. After 1 Mass I was told that the parish really wanted to adopt a parish in Haiti but got stuck with us. I stopped

Given the 78% rise in reported new Covid infection cases in Georgia, I’ve decided to wear my mask 100% of the time outside my home even though I’m fully #vaccinated . I pray that all seek to be protected - #GetVaccinated and #WearAMask when needed.
