okay that was the first time i've tweeted anything nearly "critical" in a while... felt like making a thread might delete

that's also not to discount the poison that is certain (esp yt) rap writers/podcasters/vloggers "covering" things like "drill" or "trap" before that the lensing in those realms is 9/10 fraudulent, violent, and predatory from essence so when "hood tour" guy gets clapped we applaud

at least that's how it reads in much of the writing and pontificating i've seen/heard but this isn't only in ref to things of the "underground" i'd say it happens with say hyperpop, plugg, drill, trap, etc... just that i see more potential for elitist takes in the former but...

bc not only is there a new name being invented and put onto a usually disparate set of artists, it also plays into a divisive "real hip hop" narrative (in diff language) that speaks FOR an artist's intentions & influences

and furthermore... what i often see in writing around these subgenre's is a definitive good/bad binary alluding to these artists existing within a vacuum - based on things like rap style, region, identity - standing opposed to any "mainstream rap" lineage which tbh is weird to me
