This Africa’s premier financial cooperative event has today been officially opened by H.E Hon. Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana.

I had the privilege to be part of African Cooperative Leaders’ Summit, commonly referred to as the Savings and Credit Cooperatives Association (SACCA) Congress to explore strategic and innovative approaches for sustainable cooperative financial institutions.

My presence at this event showcased the government's dedication to supporting and promoting cooperatives in Kenya. I look forward to candid deliberations during the discussions at this event by member states on cooperatives in the implementation of Agenda 2030.

I wish to commend the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) for organizing this event today.

The outcomes of the Voluntary National Review Lab on cooperatives will contribute to the global discourse on cooperative development and inform policies and actions at the national and international levels.

The President is leading from the front the “Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)” and Government has given commitment on supporting priority Value Chains (VCs) for economic takeoff.

I acknowledge the efforts made by the Government of Kenya (GoK) to enhance and strengthen cooperatives in the country. The Kenya Kwanza administration recognizes cooperatives as a crucial driver of economic resuscitation programs.

I take this opportunity to tender my gratitude to the President of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), Mr. Ariel GUARCO, for extending this invitation to me in particular and Kenya in general. I sincerely appreciate that gesture.
