On Dec. 11, the Universal Accreditation Board fulfilled one of its most important duties, granting Accreditation to 43 individuals who earned the Accredited in Public Relations credential from July to November 2023.

Candidates approved to take the exam during December 2023 will receive instructions for testing at a Prometric center. Candidates testing after Jan. 1, 2024, will register and take the exam with CMS only. Prometric will no longer be available for testing.

Here’s what you need to know: The administrative process to approve candidates to take the exam is the same. For APR and APR+M: once candidates are advanced from a Panel Presentation, they will be provided instructions to register and take the exam.

Beginning in 2024, exams will be offered by Certification Management Services (CMS) and proctored online by Examity. PRSA’s contract with its current provider Prometric will expire on Dec. 31, 2023. After that time, exams will be offered through CMS’s exam system.

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, examinations for Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), APR + Military Communication (APR+M) and the Certificate in Principles of Public Relations will be administered in a new system.
