PROFS has serious concerns about UW System's planned changes to copyright policy: "...this is a broad over-reach by the administration...to exert ownership on the intellectual property of its faculty and staff, who have until now had broad discretion over the use of their work."

UW System releases an independent report on its finances and strategic needs. The report by Deloitte says UW "would benefit from a strategic roadmap across administrative, operations, technology, programmatic, and enrollment initiatives."

UW System is revising its copyright policy, classifying syllabi "institutional work" belonging to the System. UW would continue to transfer ownership of other scholarly work to the author but now reserve the right to use it for the educational mission.

Iowa legislative committee will undertake a comprehensive review of higher education: "restoring... confidence in our institutions, controlling costs, and returning the focus...away from ideological agendas, and back to the pursuit of academic excellence."

UW-Madison moves up two spots–to 6th–in national research rankings of public and private institutions. The university, for many years among the top five research institutions, fell to 8th in FY2018 and remained there for five years.
