To prepare for the high HL-LHC data influx, GridPP organises data challenges for computing centers to stress test their infrastructure. This year it simulated 25% of HL-LHC data. RAL was very successful in this challenge, achieving 2 - 3 times throughput than ever before.

CMS, like ATLAS, leverages RAL’s triggering expertise. PPD developed FPGA boards for the Level-1 trigger to handle the HL-LHC's data influx and is adapting code for GPUs. We also work on the HL trigger, ECAL operations, and ML algorithms to improve track reconstruction accuracy.

Energy and luminosity are both key to collider performance. The LHC accelerates protons to 13.7 TeV. Integrated luminosity, proportional to the number of events observed, must be maximised to analyse rare and interesting events.
