The new site includes all the features you are familiar with, including real-time EQ info, event pages, station details, and research resources. And the most important under the hood improvements allow for better stability, faster loading, and a platform ready for future growth.

Happy #FieldworkFriday! It can be challenging to work in the snow, and also a whole lot of fun! We left our mark in view of the White Pass Ski Area High Camp webcam this week after a trip to WPEQ. The lettering looks even better in night vision with Mt Rainier in the background.

Happy #FieldworkFriday! Mt. Rainier’s highest, most rugged station, STAR, made headlines this week after its signals were misinterpreted as unusual activity. In reality, the data reflect cold and icy conditions at 11,000' of elevation, not volcanic unrest.

There is no indication of increased seismic activity at Mt. Rainier in recent days. Other stations on the mountain are functioning normally and show normal background activity.

This older, low-power system is more susceptible to weather-related interference than our newer, higher-powered digital stations.

That station, STAR, is one of the last remaining old analog sites on the mountain and uses very low-power radio transmission to send data down to the receive site in Graham.

Some false reports are circulating that Mt. Rainier is suddenly showing seismic tremor activity — this is not true. The signal being referenced is actually radio interference, most likely due to rime ice buildup on the antenna of one of our seismic stations.

Happy #FieldworkFriday! At OTR, on the Olympic Peninsula, our comms tower was wiggling when we climbed it, so we swapped all the bolts and really wrenched them down. This will ensure a stable tower and a safe worksite for years to come. It's the little details that matter!

Happy #FieldworkFriday! As we trudge through fall and approach winter the field team finds themselves fighting against the sunset. Add in the 1hr loss of light from Daylight Savings Time last weekend and we know we’re not the only folks working in the twilight hours.

Happy #fieldworkfriday and Happy Halloween! Still picking out a costume? Check out some suggestions modeled by our talented PNSN field staff. Maybe a soggy construction worker? A peak-obsessed helicopter pilot? A granola backcountry hiker?
