This also wouldn’t be as much of a problem if we were a defensively sound team, but we’re not that either. 64 goals conceded is the 8th worst defensive record in the league. Only five teams have faced more shots on target than us this season. Problems at both ends to be fixed.

Of course, xG isn’t the be-all and end-all, but it’s an interesting metric that backs up the eye test this season. North End rank 23rd in the league for shots, shots on target, xG & npxG. Going into next season, this simply has to improve.

Preston have averaged an xG of 0.86 per 90 this season. Since being promoted back to the Championship in 2015-16, that’s the lowest our xG has ever been. That's despite having the likes of Mads, Millar, Holmes, Riis, Keane, Osmajic etc to call upon #pnefc.
