RT @JJBenelli: Always neat to see which poa programs worked and which ones didn’t work in replicated research.

Doveweed has emerged in central Georgia. Recent hot and wet weather will push the spread of these plants in turf very soon.

Monument + Barricade + Simazine applied in mid-November for Poa control giving excellent PRE control of crabgrass and annual kyllinga in May. Controlling the initial flush of these weeds is another benefit of delaying Poa control programs later in fall with multiple MOA.

Tough year for Poa control on many paspalum golf courses. Seeing big differences in fairways vs. roughs with efficacy of Kerb and other programs. Supers with Poa problems in roughs will need to plan additional early POST treatments to supplement programs working well in fairways.

Roundup applied in winter doing what it’s capable of - controlling winter annuals and releasing white clover this spring.

A dense stand of glyphosate-resistant Poa one month after treatment with Roundup at 16 oz/acre. Always a good indication of resistance when other weeds are controlled and Poa remains green with seedheads present.

This field is free of annual bluegrass but is covered with annual blue-eyed grass. The absence of other weeds suggests annual blue-eyed grass is likely being released from certain herbicide programs used for winter weed control in turf.

Crabgrass seedlings still standing after freezing temps last week. No reset on the initial flush of germination unfortunately.

Kerb applied in late fall is giving about 100% Poa control here, but weedy patches spreading now are all lawn burweed. Good example of why Kerb programs must include simazine, Dimension, or SUs (Katana, MSM, rimsulfuron) to pick up winter annual BLWs that Kerb does not control.

Simazine applied three weeks ago doing about all it’s capable of these days for late-season Poa control.

Kyllinga is waking up. Early spring growth of green kyllinga influenced by mowing height - fairway (left) vs. rough (right), similar to the greenup of warm-season turf from dormancy.

A sulfonylurea applied last month is providing confirmation that at least one Poa plant is still susceptible to ALS-inhibitors at this golf course.

Yellow dog bermudagrass (off-type) patches collapsing three weeks after treatment with PRE3 combination + tebuconazole. This is a good example of the potential for random injury to off-types from chemistries typically safe for bermudagrass.

Bermudagrass is beginning to encroach in this chamberbitter lawn. Best stand of this weed I’ve ever seen.
