These numbers make one thing very clear. Crypto usage in Pakistan is not a future idea. It is already here and it is already large. The real work now is to bring this activity into the formal economy.

The country already has strong rails. Raast, 1LINK and RTGS are used every day at scale. Connecting this infrastructure to regulated crypto on and off ramps is a clear path forward.

Remittances are a major pain point. Pakistanis pay around 6.4 percent in fees every time money comes home. Stablecoins can bring this number below 2 percent and make transfers faster and safer.

At the same time, 88 percent of all payments inside Pakistan are already digital. People know how to use wallets, apps and online transfers. Crypto fits into the behaviour that already exists.

More than 20 million Pakistanis are using crypto today. They trade nearly 300 billion dollars every year through channels that are outside our system. This activity is real and it is growing.

Still, there’s a gap: even though we have millions of crypto users, legal clarity is limited. Many crypto transactions happen via P2P platforms or offshore exchanges.

But it’s not all unregulated chaos. Pakistan is building its crypto infrastructure: the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) was established in July 2025 to license and supervise crypto services.

Why so many Pakistanis are turning to crypto? There are a few big reasons: Inflation: The rupee’s volatility means people look to crypto to hedge. Freelancing: Many freelancers get paid in USD. Remittances: Overseas workers send billions home each year.

That’s not just hype. Industry estimates suggest 20 to 27 million Pakistanis are using crypto right now. Some sources even go as high as 40 million, if you count peer-to-peer (P2P) traders.
