Roll & retell is a great small group activity that can be altered for any lesson. In this specific one, it allows students to question their knowledge about a book or short story they read in class. This is also a great activity to do when preparing for a test 🍎@PJLanguageArts

I was first introduced to Heggarty during my teaching placement. It was amazing to see progress over the 4 weeks. This curriculum is a great addition to kindergarten literacy. Students learn to separate sounds and recognize first, middle, and last sounds in words. @PJLanguageArts
When students listen to whole words and segment them, they are developing critical phonemic awareness skills. My kinder are doing a fantastic job with this! #iteachk #phonemicawareness #Kindergarten #heggarty @TheBatchBulldog @BatchParent

While on placement, many of the Jk/Sk’s chose wooden letter manipulatives during free play. They were able to feel the shape of the letter and arrange multiple letters to form names and words. These helped with word recognition, letter sounds, and word formation. @PJLanguageArts

Magnetic letters are a fun and diverse way to teach and assess student knowledge. The letters are versatile; students can create different words, phrases, show nouns, and an endless amount of possibilities! @PJLanguageArts
I ❤️ our new magnetic letters for small group work. I found these ones on Amazon. They are perfect for little hands. So many opportunities for word manipulation, decoding, blending, etc. I ❤️ that the digraphs are included. @SoRclassroom @tldsb_literacy @LeslieFrostPS

Parts of speech jenga is a unique and creative activity to do in small groups with your class. It’s an easy way to keep students engaged while practicing, testing, and learning about what nouns, adjectives, and verbs are. Make learning fun 🍎 👩‍🏫 @PJLanguageArts

When We Were Alone by David Robertson an Indigenous author shares the experience of residential schools through storytelling between generations. This would be a great read aloud to build students knowledge on Indigenous history, traditions, and practices @PJLanguageArts

In my placement I used Riddle Task Cards to teach students inferencing! This worked well as the students were very engaged throughout the activity. This can be altered depending on the grade you are teaching! @PJLanguageArts

I love this idea of using paint swatches as a visual to guide the conversation of synonyms and what they are! I found this idea on Pinterest and I will definitely be implementing it into my future literacy lessons. @PJLanguageArts

I love the idea of this FREE program for parents. Even if your child has started school, it's never too late to read to them. These book logs are a great keepsake and an even better way to enhance your child's literacy! @PJLanguageArts
It’s never too early to start building your child’s literacy and DPL can help! We take part in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten (1KBB4K), an initiative that sets the goal of reading 1000 books before your child starts school. You can get the info at https://t.co/VDUyynlKcy

This is an excellent approach to learning and understanding phonics! My AT utilized similar movement-based activities with Heggerty to practice phonological awareness of words' beginning, middle, and end sounds. @PJLanguageArts
Our inter Ms. Latham was giving a K student an OCR assessment as I was walking down the hallway today. I loved how this student was using multi-sensory strategies to figure out the answer. His teacher has done an amazing job teaching him these skills to use! Great job! #FCSlearn

This seems to be an excellent activity for developing blending and motor skills. The best part about it is that it's hands-on, and teachers can adapt it to teach beginning sounds and pre-primer sight words/heart words @PJLanguageArts

Julián Is A Mermaid by Jessica Love is a great story for a read aloud. With a moral that reminds us to be proud of our individuality and support loved ones, this makes it the perfect book to introduce to your students for conversations on identity and inclusivity @PJLanguageArts
