Runner attempting steal of 2b. fly ball to CF @JRODshow44-SS @jp_crawford knows where the ball is but never looks to CF, instead he bluffs DP Pivot getting the runner to slide-resulting in a DP.“Little Things” that do not show up in a box score, but helps win games

“ Double Plays make themselves, they are not made” 3 things determine a DP….1. Speed of the ball.2. Direction of the ball.3. Speed of the runners. The infielders job is to make good “feeds” and good throws to 1b… “Handle the ball” #Fundamentals.

By receiving the feed “deep” close to his chest he is able to make a quick transfer and simply play catch w/ the 1bman… by setting up at the back of 2b it insures the runner cannot disrupt the play….NEVER reach for a feed, it makes for a long transfer.

Throws to the back of 2b allows the 2bman to use the base as protection which allows him to make the turn comfortably. 2b sets up with left foot on back 1/3 of 2b with his shoulders parallel with the 3B baseline. this set up automatically has the 2b left shoulder lined up to 1b. .

Feeds to back of 2b. Protection…contrary to belief, you can still break up a DP… poor feeds to the 1b side of 2b can result in 2bman not being able to get the relay throw off by avoiding the baserunner… or actually being “taken out”
