Technical rescue teams from multiple cities are currently responding to the Cholla Trail (Camelback Mountain) for the reports of an overheated hiker. The PIO is on the scene and will update when more details become available.

Firefighters have extinguished a house fire near 32nd St. and Union Hills. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of the structure. At this time it appears that the fire had started on the back patio. No firefighter injuries were reported.

🔥Smelling Smoke?🔥 The Billy Fire is burning 1/2 mile east of Center Mountain in the Tonto National Forest east of the valley. The high winds associated with the storm is pushing that smoke into the greater valley area.

Technical rescue teams from Phoenix and Tempe are currently on the scene at South Mountain for two injured hikers. Command has made the decision to conduct a hoist operation to extract the hikers off the mountain.

Firefighters have safely extricated an adult male off the trail utilizing a big wheel operation. Contact was made near the summit of the mountain. The hiker stated he injured his back and couldn’t continue his descent. All team members are safely off the trail.

Technical rescue teams are on the scene at Shaw Butte (South Side) for the reports of a lost hiker. The PIO will update when more details become available.

The hiker was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. All crews have made it down the mountain safely and there are no reported injuries at this time.

Crews were able to hike to the patient and evaluate him on the trail. Active cooling measures with the ice immersion bag were used to help cool the hiker. The helicopter was not in operation so crews had to carry the hiker down using the “big wheel” stretcher.

Technical rescue crews were dispatched to cholla trailhead at Camelback Mountain around 11:00 am for reports of an injured hiker. It was reported an adult male had a ground level fall and was experiencing heat related issues.
