The number of
#Palestinians
in Israeli custody has doubled since October 7, reaching 10,000 detainees and
#prisoners
. According to reports arriving from Israeli prisons and testimonies from recently released detainees, the Israel Prison Service is abusing Palestinians.
Since the ceasefire, Israel has rejected or ignored over 90% of requests for exit permits from Gazan patients seeking urgent medical care including cancer patients. Only 13 out of 191 were approved. Today we petitioned the Supreme Court to immediately overturn this policy.
470 physicians, nurses, paramedics, medical students, pharmacists, psychologists, physical therapists, lab technicians, and researchers have been killed since the start of Israel's military assault on

The position paper we published today surveys the

committed during the October 7

attacks. It aims to highlight the rehabilitation needs of survivors and witnesses of the violence - and urge an investigation of crimes against humanity.
Dr. Ahmad Mahajna, a dedicated and valued cardiothoracic resident at Hadassah Hospital, recently became the victim of a racist, nationalist, and populist witch hunt.
According to our inquiries, it all began with a naive gesture. >>

The military’s decision to disguise its forces as medical personnel is a direct extension of Israel's disregard for the medical profession, exemplified by its destruction of Gaza's healthcare system in recent months.
A boy (10) & woman (37) died this week after
#Israel
delayed their exit permits from
#Gaza
for cancer treatment. Both patients could only leave after we petitioned on their behalf, but it was already too late.
Abuses include disconnecting the power and water supply, confiscating possessions, restricting prisoners to their cells, preventing access to medical clinics, and severe physical violence. The IPS is also restricting visits by legal representatives and other officials.
Facebook removed our post under claims of "hate speech", so we're posting it here instead:
Yesterday, the Israeli military launched an assault on Gaza, killing three Islamic Jihad commanders. At least 17 Palestinians were killed and 37 were wounded in the attack, primarily women
The disconnecting of Palestinian prisoners from the outside world and the reports of abuse and violence are extremely concerning. In the last two days alone, two administrative detainees died in prison.
Obscuring the ability to distinguish between medical personnel and impostors endangers staff safety and damages patient trust, both during the actions and subsequently.
Israeli forces disguised as civilians stormed a hospital yesterday in the occupied West Bank city of
#Jenin
, killing three Palestinians. Some of the armed forces were dressed as
#medical
workers.
🚨 The red line has been crossed. Following a month of aerial bombardment of civilian and

infrastructure, a severe siege, and a ban on the entry of critical equipment for the continued operation of
#hospitals
– all hope seems lost.
Omar Daraghmeh, a 56-year-old without underlying
#medical
conditions, died in prison on October 11 – mere hours after telling his lawyer he felt well. Arafat Hamdan, a 25-year-old with diabetes, died in Ofer Prison on October 24, two days after his arrest.
1. Rather than accusing Amnesty of antisemitism, we must look at reality and the exclusion, dispossession, and oppression of Palestinians living under Israeli control, which did not begin in 1967, but dates back to Israel’s inception, with a direct impact on the right to health.
We contacted several intl. bodies, including the ICRC, after our appeals to Israeli officials were ignored, urging them to pressure the IPS and other Israeli security bodies to adhere to the law and respect detainee rights. Concurrently, we also appealed to the High Court.
Breaking: Following our petition to the Supreme Court, the state will overturn its policy only allowing exit of Gazan patients whose lives are in immediate danger. Now patients who need lifesaving treatment & treatment unavailable in
#Gaza
are also eligible for exit permits.
Israel's initiative of loaning the PA vaccines is too little too late. It does not fulfill Israel's obligation of vaccinating all Palestinians living under its jurisdiction. It is highly doubtful that the PA will be able to use all the vaccines, as they are about to expire.

#Palestinians

in recent weeks. Our volunteers participated in the autopsies of three of them - two, aged 25 and 58, suffered from preexisting conditions for which they seemingly weren't treated. A third appears to have been attacked by prison officers.
Last night, we sent an urgent letter to the Military Advocate General and Israel's Attorney General regarding over 240 sick and injured patients trapped in al-Shifa
#Hospital
in
#Gaza
– without access to food, medication, or treatment since Monday.
Sources at Erez Crossing: "Only life-saving cases" are allowed out of
#Gaza
. This morning we got a call from a
#cancer
patient who has a valid permit to travel to Jerusalem for chemotherapy & has been waiting for 2 weeks. She was sent home because her treatment isn’t lifesaving.
The hospital’s conduct is a vile attempt to pacify those demanding the blood of the detained patient and the physician caring for him. These actions have an influence on the medical staff, particularly Palestinian employees, and promote a culture of oppression and silencing.
1/Israel imposed a closure on Nablus this week after settlers attempted to block the city's entrance. Nablus is a medical hub serving Jenin, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, and many other towns and villages. We urge the medical community to oppose this severe violation of the right to health.
In less than 70 days, the Israeli assault on
#Gaza
has killed 1% of its population and wounded an additional 2%. It is already among the deadliest military attacks of the 21st century.
In addition, we reiterate the urgency – including within this context – of releasing the hostages held in Gaza. Those among them who experienced or witnessed sexual violence require urgent medical and mental health care within spaces and conditions that can allow them to heal.
We also urge the investigation of the incidents as crimes against humanity, and highlight the importance of the healthcare system's preparedness to offer survivors adequate, professional, and informed care.
PHRI stands in solidarity with the Palestinian organizations declared "terrorist" organizations by Minister of Defence
@gantzbe
, and call on him to retract his draconian statement.
The position paper relies on survivor testimonies, security and emergency personnel accounts, and visual evidence circulated online. While the currently available information is partial, we must already address the sexual violence that occurred during the October 7 attacks.
Another lethal, disproportionate attack against a besieged population. A small number of casualties isn't "collateral damage" - every one of the victims was a world unto themselves. We regularly encounter the ramifications of Israel's systematic violence against

PHRI volunteer Dr. Lina Qassem reports that hunger striker Hisham Abu Hawash is in imminent danger of death due to potassium deficiency and arrhythmia. Israel refuses to release him. The use of administrative detention and hospitals as detention facilities must be stopped.
We urgently call on all those with a conscience worldwide and on the international and medical communities: raise your voice now to protect all civilians in danger. It will be too late to do so tomorrow.
Today, the court discussed Ahmed Manasra’s appeal for release. Ahmed was held in solitary confinement for over 6 months, and according to an expert opinion issued by one of our psychiatrists, his continued imprisonment will lead to irreparable damage.
Following a day of concerted efforts, we have succeeded - for now - in preventing the deportation of 20 Palestinian patients and their accompanying relatives back to Gaza, including children battling cancer and recovering from bone marrow transplants.
There is an increase in infections, and a full occupancy in
#Palestinian
hospitals in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Two hospitals have announced that cancer patients from Gaza cannot be admitted. And yet, Israel is neglecting its responsibilities of supplying

to the oPt.
Dr. Mahajna discovered that the hospital quickly issued a press release depicting him as a terrorist sympathizer. Before he could even tell his side of the story, he was summoned to a hearing before termination. >>
The department’s staff celebrated & decided to give out their leftover refreshments to patients – Among them was a 16yo Palestinian in police custody. The officers accompanying the patient complained to the hospital management about the physician’s decision to offer him candy. >>

Yesterday, we urged the health and religion ministers to prevent the burial of any unidentified bodies and remains collected from the 7/10 Attack until receiving approval from the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
After al-Quds

It was exhausting, but after a month of struggling, Muhammad Relban was granted permission to be with his wife and toddler in the ICU after 3 of their

Even though several European States have announced they found no evidence of links to terror, the military raided the organizations' offices, confiscated equipment, and sealed off their doors. The evidence presented has not convinced a single country.

For the past three weeks, since Hamas’s atrocities of October 7th, settlers have been exploiting the lack of public attention to the West Bank, as well as the general atmosphere of rage against Palestinians, to escalate their campaign of violent attacks
Together with six other human rights and civil society organizations in Israel, we have issued a statement expressing concern over the recent decision of 18 countries to suspend funding for the

The destruction and killing have reached an unfathomable scale. We demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to the assault in a last effort to prevent the further killing of thousands of civilians.
10 Palestinians, including a 72-year-old and a 16-year-old, were killed in an Israeli military raid in Nablus, according to Palestinian officials. 103 others were injured, and 7 remain in critical condition. For hours, the army prevented ambulances from evacuating the wounded.
This is far from enough. All restrictions on freedom of movement and especially freedom of movement for patients seeking medical treatment must be lifted.
Israel’s assault on the
#healthcare
infrastructure in
#Gaza
has long passed the point of catastrophe. The deliberate and systematic attacks are paralyzing the local health system’s capacity to meet the needs of the over 50,000 wounded - with more added every hour -
We were horrified to learn of the killing of Al Jazeera correspondent

who was covering actions by the Israeli military in

2. Despite Israel’s attempts at fragmentation, Palestinians are a single ethnonational group, subjected to an institutionalized regime of oppression using law, policy, procedure, and practice and designed to perpetuate Jewish supremacy in the area controlled by Israel.
Israel's military offensive and the deadly attacks on medical facilities and personnel, essential for protecting civilian lives in Gaza, must be stopped.
Military bombardments have damaged the intensive care unit as well as the only generator that remained operational until now. As a result of the lack of electricity, we can report that the neonatal intensive care unit has stopped working.
Israel
#Prison
Service’s refusal to allow the Red Cross to inspect its incarceration settings violates intl. and local law and the moral duties of law-abiding states. Though framed as "shameless" by local media, the organization's demand is legitimate, and the IPS must comply.
Israel is obliged to provide vaccines to the Palestinians. Today we wrote to the Ministry of Health, referring to UN conventions & agreements that outline Israel’s responsibility during epidemic. As per Paris Agreement, only vaccines approved in Israel can be transferred to oPt
3. We work with Palestinians of all statuses: residents of the oPt, Israeli citizens, Jerusalem residents, or status-less. Their right to health is violated in different ways with one commonality: systemic oppression of Palestinians and preservation of Jewish supremacy.

6. This reality should make it difficult for us, Jewish Israelis, to evade responsibility for the ongoing injustice and ignore how it privileges us at every phase of our lives. Instead of shooting the messenger, Amnesty, we must see reality for what it is and end the injustice.
@gantzbe
We regularly work with Palestinian organizations and will continue doing so. This decision is an illegitimate political persecution of organizations working to defend human rights in the occupied territory.
The
#Nakba
isn’t a historical event – it’s a collective trauma that is still unfolding. Millions of Palestinian refugees were never allowed to return to their homes, and millions more still live under a settler-colonial apartheid regime, subjected to structural violence.
While public attention is focused on the war in Gaza, we are witnessing a rise in combined settler-military violence in the West Bank over the last month, with deadly consequences.
Some of the medical staff have escaped due to the real threat to their lives, leaving behind hundreds of sick and wounded patients with no treatment or means of escape.

This demand follows growing concern from the families of the
#hostages
and missing persons that burials are being hastened for religious reasons - without exhausting all identification measures.
There can be no shred of justification for the killing of thousands of displaced persons, patients, and medical staff in duty. We call on all parties to respect the duty to protect citizens, health facilities, and medical personnel.
If there's anything the last few weeks have taught us, it's not to rely on such statements. We will continue pushing our demands on behalf of the families of the hostages and missing persons.
