Glean of huge pear tree. You harvest them hard and let them ripen. If they ripen on the tree they are "mealy". Who know? Pears delivered to community fridges in S'side, C'town, Montague, Vernon Bridge. Thanks to Ron, the homeowner, for sharing and reducing food waste.

C'town City Council voted 7-1 not to allow a zoning variance that would allow the Connolly St community fridge to stay at it current location. Sadly, last night the FX made the last delivery of 100 meals. We hope to continue cook days, added volunteer burden for delivery-not OK

At the 2nd wild food cook day we used carrot tops to make chimichurri and curry soup using wild and garden greens including lambs quarters, nettles, dandelion and beet greens. Lots of learns and zero food waste. We make food and deliver it to the community fridge.

The Poverty Elimination Strategy Act on PEI set a target for children living in food insecure households at 0 by 2025. New stats show PEI's rate has increased to 41% (2 in 5 children living in food insecure households). Crumbs for non profit orgs will not fix this.

Rev John Moses is an accomplished gardener himself - when he was last at Trinity he kept an impressive container garden in the backyard of the parish house where he lived at the time. The FX is hopeful for a plot to teach the CFMP participants how to make a raised bed.
A new community garden in downtown Charlottetown will soon be available for people to grow their own food for free. Read more ⬇️ https://t.co/9X1KmhbJwp

The 2024 federal budget will impact how folks in our province access food. Our latest post looks at the budget and what it means for the right to food. We discuss the School Food Policy's first steps, Canada Disability Benefit disappointment, and more. https://t.co/SiTESfoYOG

The Government of Canada released their 2024 budget earlier this week. Some of the changes the budget announces will significantly impact if, and how, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians access food.

When the FX delivered the community food preserving program we wanted to ensure the person teaching the water bath method was highly competent -we wanted Margaret Prouse. Huge respect for her knowledge, attention to detail and no nonsense approach.
Home economist Margaret Prouse has been writing for The Guardian since 1994. We wanted to know more about her, so we asked her to answer these 20 questions. Here’s what she said ⬇️ https://t.co/4iFnYMu8qA

PEI was the first province to legislate targets to reduce food insecurity. The bill was tabled by former MLA Hannah Bell and supported by all parties.
Building on the momentum for school food, we will continue to work with the federal government, as well as provincial and territorial governments and urge them to set a target to reduce #FoodInsecurity by 50% by 2030.

Best seed exchange and sale on PEI happening March 30th in Breadalbane. A community of keen gardeners where seed saving is a competitive sports.
Getting ready for Breadalbane Seed Exchange March 30, 2-5. I’m sharing green pole beans, lemon cucs, and a few varieties of tomatoes, including Bumblebee Cherry. Hoping to pick up something new for my plot. See you there! #pei #gardening #food gardens #seedexchange

This act, presented by @Hannahbethbell, a Green Party MLA at the time, was supported by all parties. It was the first time in Canada that food insecurity targets were mandated in legislation. Good to see a liberal MLA advocate for the current PC gov't to meet the targets set.
The rept on Child & Family poverty in PEI is troubling. This @dennyking gov’t isn’t doing enough to come close to the legal reqmts in the pov elimination act - to ⬇️ poverty by 25% for all persons, and ⬇️ 50% for those under 18 @infopei #peipoli.
