LinkedIn saw it first but I’ve been having some fun programming the last week or so. Fairly new to command and control so I wrote (with the help of some GPT) a Slack-based C2 sever and agent.

My specific program cost approximately $7500 before any grant/scholarship. Another 2-year program I got into would have cost $13,000 before scholarships or tuition wavers you can try for. In addition to this, you get the incredible value of living and studying overseas.

For those in the US:. You’re not limited to US colleges when it comes to getting an education. I left the US after getting my bachelors degree and paid a small fraction to get a masters degree in the field I wanted. Scholarships, lower cost of living, and more make it possible.

I say this because there is no one cert or program to get you into a cyber security role. You don’t need to master the OSI model or be able to configure a switch/router. Degrees and certs are a good way to show your abilities but ultimately YOU are the one selling yourself.

I would argue that I learned more technical abilities from those three certs than I did during my degree program. But I also learned a lot about things I never would have on my own. It also connected me with people who I still stay in contact with and have shaped my career.

My program was set up to partner with local businesses to connect with students with possible internships. It was from this where I landed my first role as a security risk intern. I stayed on after as a full time Pentester and learned what certs they wanted me to have.

During my program we learned how to analyze malware, how to run some testing tools on a windows machine, the OWASP Top 10 for web applications, law and ethics, cloud security fundamentals, and a few lmore.

I went into my masters degree program having almost no cyber security/networking experience. I had a physics bachelors degree and had taken a coding class and a database class where we learned SQL.

i know that pathways into cybersecurity (as well as how much we’re all getting paid) is a taboo topic, so here’s a blatantly honest timeline of my progression working in cybersecurity, including my years of experience, education, certifications, and my base salary (*salaries.

I got my first six-figure offer at 24. I had about a year of on the job experience, a masters degree, and three certifications. Since then, I have only just recently obtained my CISSP. The three certs I was told to get to best perform on my team were eJPT, eWPT, and eWPTX.

i got my first six-figure salary offer at 24 years old once i earned my CISSP; @ISC2 is offering a free entry-level certified in cybersecurity exam right now for you to take! i highly recommend checking it out if you’re just getting into cyber, or trying to understand if cyber is.
